Re: Optional Terrain Texture Tiles
Good work, the effect of water and terrain I remained perfect. We hope your new version to July 22 with Finland DLC improving new river frozen and snow terrain, thank youkyrael04 wrote:Greetings
A simple mod.
How to install - make sure to back up the terrain default folder first. Just go to your OoB directory folder, find Order of Battle - WW2_Data/content/graphics/terrain/default, replace all of the png tiles.
you wont see much changes from the attached picture cause its too small.

Re: OoB Alternative Terrain Textures V2 UPDATED
Hello lads,
I found this topic but it seems the content is no longer available... so I made my own stuff.
I had 2 objectives:
1. Make OOB look nicer:) - after playing some PC2 I went back to OOB preferring its' mechanic and setting, but it's so hard on the eyes... I tried to add some more detail and resolution while keeping the saturation and contrast rather low so units don't blend in with the terrain to much.
2. Improve legibility of hills (=difficult terrain) and swamp vs open terrain as I find them tricky to tell apart - I am playing the Morning Sun campaign and got to the Wuhan scenario with a lot of hilly terrain.
Additional notes:
- I worked to achieve what I feel is an Asian/Pacific look and tested it only in the Asian/Pacific setting
- I have modified only the textures in the Default folder, haven't touched Arid, Wet nor Winter
- Textures are not mine, I have used free textures from http://howintheworld.com/textures/ and https://polyhaven.com/textures and edited them in Lightroom
- the game has a rather suprising way of mapping the texture files to terrain types which is somewhat limiting e.g. sand file is used for beach terrain which is fine but also appears on lower parts of mountains, on the other hand the seabed file is used not only for what the name implies but shows up in higher parts of mountains, hills don't have their own file but use jungle texture, desert and rough desert use the same texture (apart from the odd hill showing up in rough desert), forest texture seems to be used only incidentally so I left it alone
Installation:
1. Backup the texture folder for easy uninstallation: \Order of Battle Pacific\Order of Battle - WW2_Data\Content\Graphics\Terrain\Default
2. Download: https://wetransfer.com/downloads/4916ee ... 026/b984ba
3. Unzip and paste loose files in the texture folder, overwriting existing files :\Order of Battle Pacific\Order of Battle - WW2_Data\Content\Graphics\Terrain\Default
4. Start the game (changes won't show if you swap files when the game is running - even after reloading)
Enjoy and let me know what you think:)
Peace

Kaa303, not bad! I like the look except for just one thing. It's really green! A shade darker if it was/is possible I think would be a tad better. That being said, it is pretty easy to see units. Thanks for doing this!

Re: OoB Alternative Terrain Textures V2 UPDATED
It looks pretty good. I noticed that the rocks and mountain textures look identical.
Re: OoB Alternative Terrain Textures V2 UPDATED
This is on purpose - after some testing this is my way of dealing with the rather unintuitive texture mapping in OoB. Look at the below picture - to identify what goes where I've used some dummy textures. Mountain texture is red - it seems that it's used only for a bit on the peaks and... on the desert tiles. The most prominent are rock texture - blue - and... seabed - white. Thus I decided to used the same texture to avoid any artifacts on the mountians.

Re: OoB Alternative Terrain Textures V2 UPDATED
If the mountain texture would be more present and distinct from the rock texture, it would allow to have more variety in the decorations ?
Re: OoB Alternative Terrain Textures V2 UPDATED
Agreed. But texture mapping (ie where does the game engine show which texture) is something I am not able to change. With current mapping the mountain texture does not play a big role. At first I tried to use it to emulate snow on the peaks but then I've found it also showing up in the desert...
Re: OoB Alternative Terrain Textures V2 UPDATED
I made it a bit darker and less saturated, changed the mountain texture which is displayed on peaks and desert tiles and also darkened the farmland texture

Excellent, the shade darker is a little easier on the eyes!
