So now how did we play it .

The status quo at Gorodetchna bridge was not played . We used a 6 x4 table, and concentrated on the real battle .

The scenario is best suited for 3 players.

On the 4" side we deployed most of the austrians and on the long edge the saxons + some austrian cavalry and 2 infantry units Hesse-Homburg of the austrian bianchi command .They could not be deployed side by side but mixed in the saxon depoyment ( I love historical like deployments ). the austrian cavalry would arrive on turn 1 as reinforcments just behind the saxon cavalry .

Special austrian rules :

The austrians did fight and 60% of the total loses of the austrian hilfkorps happened during this battle . napoleon was so impressed that he urged Emperor Ferdinand to give to general Schwarzenberg is Marshall promotion :D

Now will the austrians be agressive or not . The austrian secretly rolls a die +2 . the result ( 3 -8 ) is the number of demoralisation points he can accumuate before withdrawing . The austrian looses 1 point for each unit that becomes disrupted, 2 points for a wavering unit and 3 points for a routed unit. each time a unit recovers morale, the austrian recovers morale . The austrian player loses the game if the austrian korps demoralises - but the saxon can still win ).

The marsh proved less an obstacle than the russian thought it would be . So the austrian players roll a die when he first arrives on the edge of the marsh . 1-2 the marsh is dry and units may cross it as open terrain, 3-4 it is rough terrain, 5-6 difficult terrain .

The river may be crossed the turn after the unit moves adjacent to it .

Forces on both sides have been adjusted so as to be playable .

We played that scen 3 times both armies being deployed within 16 MU from each other . Once the russian just crushed the saxon assault , once the russian managed to hold for 8 turns and we decided it was an historical result, the russian held long enough . One the russian won because the austrians lost courage and retired from the battle early :D

The most important thing, it was fun and quick .
