Re: Grand plan for the game

Alright, finally, here we go: What we have in mind for Pandora is to constantly expand the universe to eventually have a huge feature set. When you check our interface design, help panel and world data, you might notice that everything is built very modular. I don't think there is a limit to the num...

Re: Enemy units wait to die

Here's the file just after I captured the city and the formers began to move into the city area. The city is Sadatoni at hex [36,31]. Thanks! This is straying a little bit from the immediate topic, but does the AI take comparative tech level into account when considering war? My experience is that ...

Re: Enemy units wait to die

The reason she wasn't attacking your barracuda was that you had a photon cannon and gauss armor equiped, which effectively gives you 11 to 13.5 power against pretty much anything she had in the area (her dreadnought was equipped with a flak), giving you far superior force. However, transporters beha...

You'll have to compress that save to zip or rar, since the forums don't support the PandoraSave extension.

Re: Enemy units wait to die

That their transporters end up next to your ships should not happen, nor that their battleship drives off. You accidently forgot to attach the savegame.

They do now, and even condemn your usage of WMDs!

Re: First Impressions (1h play)

Heya Adam, thanks for the feedback! 1. Slick UI The User Interface is intuitive enough. There are plenty of tooltips, which is nice and definitely helps getting into speed. The tutorial hints are also a good idea. The tutorial descriptions are not too big nor too small, just enough to pickup some sp...

Re: AI behavior

Currently the AI does not cheat on medium, but gets morale boni and mali on higher and lower difficulty settings; I might change it so it gets a small bonus on medium. Your third point is at the top of my AI TODO list, since it's really gamebreaking. While the AI considers food and mineral boni, it ...

Re: Grand plan for the game

Thanks a bunch whaleberg, your level of concern is highly appreciated; I'll give a detailed response in one or two days -- just really busy with coding at the moment, implementing changes based on you guys feedback.

Re: City Sprawl

Maybe the solution is the same as with credits: The city with your headquarters grows at full speed, cities further outward grow slower.

We'll implement the headquarters system over the next one or two days, then you guys can have a go at it.

[Poll] More Alien-Looking World?

On some pages on the web people brought up that our planet looks too much like Earth, so we're considering a larger terrain overhaul in that regard. What do you guys think?

Re: City Sprawl

I agree that city sprawl is a problem at the moment. Alpha Centauri used an energy efficiency system, the further away cities were from your capital, the less energy you got. We could easily add something like that for credits (including a relocatable capital), maybe even buildings that improve cred...

Re: My first few hours with Pandora

Alright, have to defend some of our design decisions here, because we pondered them quite a bit before implementation. While we're on the topic, why do we have food and mineral stockpiles? It's fine having a money stockpile/balance because you spend it, but why food? Why not just have a balance and ...

Re: My first few hours with Pandora

While I'm also not a fan of mineral exhaustion, I have to state that a (fully justified) code refactorization from last week introduced resource misscalculation. The stats showing how many resources are gained from buildings etc. are wrong and values are getting inflated. We'll publish a new build s...

Re: First impressions

Heya whaleberg, thanks for the feedback! Ruins are awfully boring right now, they're just goody huts, and not even particularly useful ones. Special map features are WAY more valuable than regular squares, but not particularly interesting. Do you have any concrete ideas how you would rather do it? E...

Re: My first few hours with Pandora

Thanks for the feedback Janek, and sorry to hear that! 1. ALT + TAB = crash. Since we develop for three different systems (Windows, Mac, Linux) and with several third party libs, these things are just bound to happen in beta. On the around two dozen systems we tested the game so far it did not happe...

Re: My first few hours with Pandora

Huge feedback, thanks a bunch larchy! 3. The interface has too little feedback on important information. I am told after founding my first city, with nothing yet in the build queue, that "-2.00" minerals are being used for "production". Production of what? Where? What is going on...

Re: First play through

The factions, aside from a few buffs and bonuses, feel pretty much the same, and I don't find myself really playing them any differently than each other. Our design goal is that factions actually do feel differently mechanic wise, and we're going the route of having a few select traits that have a ...
