Re: FOG Renaissance.

So there are some PoA differences. I cannot recall what they are, but I can <b>assume<\b> that heavily armoured knights are hit on 4s with longbows. Meanwhile in FoGR, fully armoured gendarmes are hit on 5s. There are others I'm sure. I'd look it up, but I have a back injury and a bit out of action....

Re: UNdead ?

Undead can "break" and run. I seem to recall a certain Army of Darkness where the skeletons flee when their general was blown up. Also, owe could take a page from older rules from GW. I recall from the 4th edition days when a unit could evaporate when losing a leadership test. To simulate thi...

Re: FOG Renaissance.

That is a very interesting idea! I think it would work best when you have a universe that has high powered magic. In another thread, I mentioned that DnD can potentially have BGs of longbows. However, with FoGR, we can field BGs of magic users: fireballs and lightning bolts are classified as muskets...

Re: Magic and Heroes

Please relax. I never mentioned GW and specifically listed DND and Xanth. You are putting words in your mouth and then going on an unneeded rant. Finally, I placed a wink emoticon to show, hopefully, a light heartedness. My REAL point is that magic can and does vary from author to author. No one has...

Re: Magic and Heroes

You also forgot the DND and High fantasy worlds (i.e. Xanth) where magic is so plentiful where you could easily just take a unit of longbowmen, name them mages and call it a day. ;)

Re: Wolf Packs and Ogers

I get the impression of camelry with light spears... Albeit, these "camels" can handle terrain better because they fought in very different types. So, we've finally reached a limit to FoG. The rules, as written, work for historicals, and we are exploring fantasy. Sigh. If I had any sort of clout, I ...

Re: Wolf Packs and Ogers

This is beginning to sound like light spear to me... As a bonus, if the knights were foolish to fight in terrain, then the wolves would find themselves with a PoA! I know that this differs from your statements, but wouldn't wargs and wolf riders fight better in the woods and scrub?

Re: Heavy Weapon Performance under V2

Thank goodness that heavy weapons were not broken. Yes, they perform better, but not so much so that they are destroying everyone in front of them. I happen to play quite a bit of Hundred Year War, and Later Medieval Danes... For both versions. I can tell you that they are a bit more scary to Romans...

Re: Orcs and Goblins

Yeah, GW orcs are another army list. Entirely! They have choppas and gain a bonus to impact: light spear to impact foot entirely! They fight like anyone else so swordsman is fine, and they deserve protected too. Average and undrilled are requirements. That sounds like. Basic warbands to me. Now, to ...

Re: size of units in S&S

Oh there are other Medieval attempts at changing formations. For example, Richard the Lionheart changed his infantry to have the spears in the front rank and the crossbows in a supportive rank. This made his spearmen much more dangerous to Saladin's cavalry. Additionally, King Richard anchored his m...

Re: size of units in S&S

To MathewB: Thanks for the pics. I had missed the spear elves. So we also have front rank defensive spear, heavy foot, drilled, armoured, superior. Very cool. I could easily see that being another variation to the previous elven infantry. For those who are not aware, that elf in blue is Gil-Galad, t...

Re: size of units in S&S

All of these units you describe can vary to whatever source material you want. Now if you want elves like you saw in the first LotR film, then I saw 2 ranks. The first rank had huge swords that cut the orcs to pieces. The second rank were archers. All were armored fairly similarly. Next, the elves s...

...or how about French knights? They start off as lancer swordsmen and then dismount with heavy weapons... ...or how about late Swiss pikes? They wore armor that was arguably better than Norman milites, but the Swiss only get Protected and a mail shirt gets Armoured. ...or how about the English long...

Please support this with more books...

So, I have EVERYTHING already, but I like the ability to have all of the army books available on a light-weight iPad. If nothing else, could you please release Storm of Arrows? Additionally, it would be pretty cool to release the Rennaissance rules and Napoleonic rules too. Thank you. PS, if you are...

Re: Early Successor

I lose more than I win, however I think that Successor armies are really strong in open tourney environments. Those pike blocks and elephants are one of the best things to fight against knights. In V1, the bet way to fight against pike armies was mobile shooting armies. Today, I'm not so sure. Now a...

Re: Later Medieval Danish - Mixed levy: Revisited

Say that to some Roman, protected, jav, Light Spear LF. ;) When staring down enemy LF, you get out-shot most times as you only have a 2" range. Meanwhile, melee could get rid of this problem. However, without protected armor, the fight becomes straight 4s. You only get 1 BG of LF and in an open tour...
