New scenario - Hell's Highway

Postby tim1966 » Thu Oct 07, 2010 8:18 pm

I've made a new scenario roughly based on the battle for St Oedenrode battle during Market Garden. The US para's must capture three bridges over the Dommell River and fight off German counter attacks until XXX corps arrive. The objective is to take all four flags if you can and keep open Hell's Highway to Nijmegen and Arnham.

If you play it please let me know what you think and any suggestions for improvements etc. Unzip and place in My Documents/BBCBA/CAMPAIGNS/

Wow impressive map. You have more patience than I. Looks like you could use parts of that map for several battles.

What a tough nut.

SPOILER

Crossing the bridges is suicide. Mortars can't reach unless on the bridges. I moved a Cromwell up to the river to the left of the top bridge. It got front sided by the Panther and side shot by a Puma that came around the top. Eventually the Panther got away and the Puma took out a Cromwell and Firefly.

I got all the bridges but couldn't take the town. My last hope died with 2 turns left.

Gimme some artillery please. I tried 3 times to take out the FJ MG across the lower bridge with the plane.

Thanks for sharing.

Tim, that is an awesome scenario - took me three cracks to beat it but it was very tense, love the AI usage and the mix of units was bang on. I got really lucky but won't say how until more games have been played, but I was in the town square for 3 turns so I made it in good time, its all about looking at the whole picture!

Loved my man, well done, looking forward to the next part of Hells Highway or a Bridge Too Far etc :)

Thanks for the feedback chaps. It is a tough one to reflect how tough the battle was. It takes a bit of luck but either add artillery in the editor or -- SPOILER FOLLOWS  :-

You can take out the German units at the end of the South Bridge by placing mortars where the 'S' of South Bridge is in my jpg in the first post. You can then get all the Para's across without casualties.

Good job, only comment would be it is too easy. Maybe give the Germans a little more infantry in the town.. what would really be nice is a sniper in the tower that snipes units trying to capture the flag in the middle.

Just want to say thanks.I have not tried it yet but I do not play multiplay maps,as I just like single play.I was worried there was just going to be a flood of multiplayer maps and no single player maps.No offence meant to multiplay.
Thanks again.

I'm sure multiplayer won't take offense :). Although I hope you try MP at least a little bit - we have a great community out there playing a lot of games at whatever pace you like. But we obviously want people to enjoy the game however they play!

Cheers

I downloaded and played this scenario while on the road cross country.

Good scenario. Looking foward to future maps to compile into an entire campaign.

SPOILER

I captured the two bridges fast and easy. As I pushed my paras further I started taking casualties, especially during the German counter attack.

I got lucky and took out the panther w a typhoon strike and then pushed on with the armor to take the last bridge and clear the town.

Lots of fun, my only criticism would be that the game didn't end when I captured everything and killed the enemy.

There isn't at the moment. It would be easy for someone to put one together. I can but it will take me a few days as I'm busy with other stuff at the moment. Not sure how balanced it would be too and how to add reinforcements to a MP game...
