Oxford Sunday FOGR events 2022
Dear all, we have got our Oxford club meeting dates for 2022 so I can now set out our proposals for events in 2022 as follows:-
1. 13th March - any army, any date but no personal firearms except arquebus, carbine and pistol, 15mm, 6 feet by 3 feet
2. 12th June - ECW, Confederate Irish, Early Royalist, Later Royalist, Scots Royalist, Parliamentarian, New Model Army, Scots Covenanter, 15mm, 6 feet by 3 feet
3. 8th august - any army, any date using 25mm, 8 feet by 4 feet
4. 13th november - any army, any date but at least 75% of army points other than generals or fortified camps must be mounted troops (includes dargoons), 15mm, 6 feet by 3 feet
Detailed arrngements in due course but should be very grateful to get any feedback on these proposals. In particular,
1. should I drop the 25mm?
2. how do you all feel about the idea of a 6 foot wide 15mm game?
3. any competing proposals for theme?
Tom

Re: Oxford Sunday FOGR events 2022
Hi Tom
Thanks for getting this out.
Regarding dates, I just realised that the August 14th date conflicts with recently announced dates for the Britcon weekend; so to avoid the clash, should that (round 3) be moved to Sun 11 Sept?
Regarding table sizes as 6 x 3, I will go with the majority, but for the 650 point armies (which I assume we are keeping), I am happier with the existing 5 x 3 layout; although with the proposed "75% of points are mounted" armies for theme 4, I can see why the extra flank room would be appealing at least for that round.
Regarding competition themes: For the first one, is another way of thinking about it is it just excludes troops that use Musket* and Musket? Or maybe be more radical and make it early Renaissance so no firearms at all (artillery still permitted) just cross-bow, bow etc? If the decision is to drop the 25mm (round 3); then could we do a round that is armies with "no mounted", or maybe no mounted except dragoons; or maybe no more than 25% of points (after generals etc) for mounted?

David,
Thanks for the suggestion on dates. I think we should certainly adopt that.
What do others think about the various points on themes and table size? Any positive votes for 25mm to add to mine?

I should also have re-iterated that the games are 650 points in case anyone new is interested.

Hi Tom
I thought 8th August became 14th August, then it became 11th September. Are we back to 14 August (clashing with Britcon) for round 3?
thanks

Re: Oxford Sunday FOGR events 2022
Hi Tom,
I must echo David's comment about clashing with Britcon, 14th August. Could we please stick with 11th September as previously advertised?
I thought all the 15mm games were sticking to 5 x 3 ft tables.
Thanks for all the organising you do.
regards Dene

Re: Oxford Sunday FOGR events 2022
And whilst we are on the topic of moving dates in the OWS FOG-R calendar, I have just seen that Warfare 2022 has announced dates that clash with round 4 (13 Nov).
This year, the FOG-R tournament was "pulled" from Warfare (ReG replaced it), so not sure if there will be a FOG-R round at Warfare 2022 at this point.
That said, would it be prudent to look at moving round 4 on the basis that many will want to attend Warfare 2022?
Here is announcement. https://www.wargamesreading.co.uk/warfare-2022/. Also note the venue is moving (again) to Farnborough.

Dene, David,
thanks for pointing it out. The dangers of cut and paste and not reviewing the message string.
Yes, September 11 rather than August 14.
I shall look at the Warfare point and propose another date for our event.
This time I shall produce a completely new listing!

Re: Oxford Sunday FOGR events 2022
Happy with whats been said. Personally, whilst we could use a 6x3 for the cavalry one, I think I am with Dene and suggest stick with 5x3 for all 15mm events. Look forward to attending all of these, especially the 25mm one..........
12th June may be awkward for me owing to "her indoors big birthday" a week or so in advance and the hol booked for it..........

Re: Oxford Sunday FOGR events 2022
My understanding is that the new Farnborough venue effectively has "unlimited" space, so if there is sufficient interest to make a FoGR event at Warfare viable, and someone reaches out and contacts them saying they are willing to set the theme, list check and umpire then I'm pretty sure the WAR chaps will be able to host it.
Warfare hosted ancients competitions for at least 6 different rulesets this year, so I would very much doubt it was a case of FoGR being 'replaced' by another renaissance set in their roster of events this time around - more likely a lack of lobbying and volunteers to organise it who were also known to the WAR illuminati!

Re: Oxford Sunday FOGR events 2022
Happy New year everyone.
I am hoping to be able to come to at least a couple of these this year, although I am moving more and more away from competitions and doing more multi-player refights.
I have put the March date in my diary and will see how the current nonsense plays out. I am currently isolating as I caught it on the way back from seeing my son in Sweden. (recovered now).
I agree about not changing the table size or other details. The 3 games in a day works very well.
Take care
Don

At the moment these dates & themes work for me. So, I will endeavour to attend all 4 events.
Thanks for organising.

Hi Tom
Can you confirm points for Army sizes for these rounds:
I am assuming 650 pts for 1 and 2, but unclear for 3 and 4 if these are to be 800 pts or something else?
1. 13th March - any army, any date but no personal firearms except arquebus, carbine and pistol, 15mm, 5 feet by 3 feet
2. 12th June - ECW, Confederate Irish, Early Royalist, Later Royalist, Scots Royalist, Parliamentarian, New Model Army, Scots Covenanter, 15mm, 5 feet by 3 feet

4. 18th December - any army, any date but at least 75% of army points other than generals or fortified camps must be mounted troops (includes dragoons), 15mm, 6 feet by 4 feet
thanks

Yes I see it is unclear. The plan is that all rounds are 650 points.
