Necrons too powerful
Necrons too powerful
I have been playing this game with the Space Marines as the player on a huge world. My AI opponents have been the Necrons, Orks and Astria MIlitia. I have been using the trivial difficulty setting. No matter what the other settings that I use, I cannot survive the Necrons. IMHO, the necron units need to be significantly downgraded.
Re: Necrons too powerful
Agreed. I played as the Necrons and conquered everything with 12 units(2 destroyers, 2 barges, 4 warriors, 3 heroes, and the walker) independents included, without losing a unit. Now I am playing against Necrons as Space Marines also and am holding my own for now but they have at least 2 cities and are several techs ahead of me so I will probably be ground down eventually. The Necrons are so powerful and have such survivability and with higher productivity than Space Marines because of extra cities it really isn't a contest.
Re: Necrons too powerful
Patch 1.05 nerf them a little.
Sure they are though. I'm happy I play Tactical Marines (55%TM, 10%Apothecary, 30%Predator, 5%others),
I give them the MeltaBomb, that's what needed.

Re: Necrons too powerful
Necrons are good on the lower difficulty levels. They lose their shine as you go up the levels.
Re: Necrons too powerful
I decided to play without the Necrons. When you play as Space Marines, they are just too powerful to beat.
Re: Necrons too powerful
Difficulty guarantees replayability.IMHO, the necron units need to be significantly downgraded.
The fact they were punishing to my Space Marines made me understand how to use Devastator covering fire.
After that they were easily toasted, captains as "tanks" and devastator/terminators eradicated them.
(EDIT: But before that, this means I was playing very bad and not understanding the various mechanics)
As orks, necrons were the only ones dealing huge damage threatening my Warboss life, making me retreat and prepare a greater WAAGH!!! after that they were easily toasted too.
That was great. A game needs challenge!
A game that makes you retreat and prepare is a good game.
Remove that, and no game has a point after succeeding once.
What is more troubling then is the experience someone has when playing as Necrons.
If it's too easy, then it's possibly bad.

Re: Necrons too powerful
I disagree here, Necron units are strong, but they have their limitations and are very vulnerable to big hitting units because their high armour and low squad size.
Re: Necrons too powerful
I figured out my problem. I was playing with the Space Marines set on the toughest setting. When I kept the Necrons at the toughest setting and my Space Marines to the easiest setting, then the Necrons were not so tough. I thought that the difficulty was set under settings, but it is set when you begin the game and assign teams.
Re: Necrons too powerful
Well I now have had games where the Necron AI had only 1 city turn 60 and was basically nowhere.. Maybe the problem is there weren't enough Tombs for them to find.
Re: Necrons too powerful
Yes the patch surprised me: -25% is huge, but I thought I'm far than being a necron specialist, so the devs know what they do.
If it was -15%, it wouldn't make me wonder.
Still, at now necron are sure not feeble, else maybe if they have no luck finding tombs...

Re: Necrons too powerful
here is my experience vs. Necrons:
i am playing on very hard, max world size, 8 opponents. Playing as Imperial Guard. I knew little of game mechanics when it came to economy, so it developed very sub-omptimal. I am in Tier 5 research, but have built no Knowledge granting buildings except the one doing production, and only recently started building new cities. Since start of the game I just spammed units and tried to explore - my armed forces consist of
2 Psyker Heroes, 1 Comissar, 8 units of basic Guardsmen, 4 Heavy Weapon Squads, 1 Hydra and 5 Sentinels.
I split the above forces in 3 battle groups, only one third of that was going up against the Necrons in my game - namely 5 basic Guardsmen and 1 Sentinel have spent ~30 turns holding a tree line against their forays against me. Lately both of the other battle groups accomplished their respective objectives and the force against Necrons got some reinforcement. I am currently on my way to surround their city - most of my advance still being pushed by basic Guardsmen units.
So overall, they are dangerous and I am sure a big reason for why I am winning is that AI failed to expand much (despite there being Necron Tombs seemingly all over the map - I counted 4 just in the contested territory between my defensive line and their city).
That said, they don't seem OP at all. Frankly, imperial infantry is what seems OP, especially when you add a Comissar to back them up. My hardest battles were actually against Space Marines and again, basic units of Imperial Guard backed up by a Psyker Hero and Comissar + liberal use of cover terrain, held their own against everything from Terminators to SM Captain hero to their devastators and many tanks.

Re: Necrons too powerful
I too generaly prefer playing in huge world. And slower pacing, so the game feels even more strategical.
. However in Medium difficulty. But maybe I should try on harder setting like you, because I do never cheat reload a game even I came losing many units. I have learnt there still hope and finally always wins in the end.
. Too, I have tested the default setting, and the game is surpringly maybe more interesting! You should try the medium map (medium pacing too) if you didn't.
My reverse is same, as SM, I hate the more fighting against Imperials, but because of their artillery. Maybe that's only psychological (like impunity of stukas lol). In second that's necron, the last are orcs even their bosses may do the more killings on my marines! (1st time I met them was heartbraking lol)Frankly, imperial infantry is what seems OP, especially when you add a Comissar to back them up. Can't quite prove it, but it seems like AI cheats with information - it always seem to know when I've left units vulnerable and swoops in at just the right moment.
Re: Necrons too powerful
Necrons seems powerful because they are easy to handle and forgive mistakes more easily (they heal every turn regarding wether they move or not).
But trust me they are balanced compared to other races, they are not really mobile for example, many skimmer vehicules easy to counter...
