Post-Campaign DLC Proposal

Post by fisher2000 »

After restarting the campaign to run through with the Broken Alliance DLC installed I had an Idea for a post-game campaign much like the BA Campaign. What has made me post this here is how well the Broken Alliance DLC was done and how well it complements the main narrative of the game.

I have not thought of the finer details but I’m sure it won't be hard.

So, I've always wondered why Humanity never went beyond the 12 colonies other than the navigational errors that crop up due to each jump. This game would be the perfect way to tell a story that involves this.

- I thought the story could start off with people saying that some of their ships from colonial fleet (player owned?) went M.I.A without any sign of debris, It would cause a concern that Sinnon implemented such technology to other ships in the fleet that made the Galactica disappear.
- A fatal design flaw (made by Sinnon) would be found during this specific campaign that rendered the Jupiter class stranded in each battle which means it would challenge the player to branch out to other ships and compensate
- After a series of story missions and side missions we learn that the missing ships have been sighted at the edge of the system
- A mission could involve recusing a deserter of the colonial military who would reveal that the ships and their crew are deserters of the war and most commanders are linked to the extremist group "soldiers of the one"
- When we find the fleet (composed of the favourite ships from the dev team) they are escorting a civilian fleet filled with throwback ships from the 1970's BSG such as the attached image to pay homage to TOS but also include brand new designed ships (not used in RDM keep the ships in that fresh)
- Cylon’s jumps in before player has a chance to destroy the renegade fleet
- Renegade fleet jump OUT of the system into uncharted space.
- Ending scenes will talk about how colonial fleet spent months searching the jump radius around the colonies for the fleet but it was never found so they gave up to divert resources to much needed aid in the colonies.
- Ending slide would show Jupiter(s) class Battlestar’s docking at a classified facility to undergo retro-fitting to link the game further in line with the lore (we do not have to see a brand new Battlestar just welding flashes or something to show that the changes are underway)
- Theseus Battlestar will be unlocked for the player and the cylon would have some cool toys
- Player will have access to TOS colonial shuttle unarmed and loaded with marines (for boarding parties)

I thought of this idea this way because I REALLY love the design of most of the colonial ships and with the ships jumping out of the system with a cylon fleet on their tail it pays homage to the TOS series but it also immortalises these ships into the canon as we will never know their fates. It also leaves the franchise open for spin-off games that doesn't focus on the exodus of the 12 colonies in RDM. With how well the latest DLC was pulled off, this would be great addition to the game and makes sense lore-wise, fixes a few plot holes and also doesn't retcon a single thing.

So please... tell me what you think? How would you handle a DLC for the game? :)

Well obviously I'd just be happy to see the Theseus in something else.

Yeah so would I. It really sends out the pocket battlestar vibe that we get from the Osiris. I would imagine that there is the possibility of licencing issues however. The ship's background would be almost perfect for this game and it would also be a visual treat to see some of the TOS civilian ships such as the Agro ship.

Hi Everyone, I hope you are all enjoying playing the game as I am!

First off just wanted to say a huge thank-you and well-done to all the Devs and personel at Slitherine games who have been working on Battlestar Galactica Deadlock. The Broken Alliance DLC really improved upon every aspect of the game and made it a whole lot better.

On to the topic of Post Campaign DLC though. I feel as if we need more story content to link each of the chapters in the Story and its Characters. And also greater repercussions as a result of mission successes and failures. While I thought it was great that they added more characters in the DLC and touched more upon certain character motivations like Lucinda Cain, Sherman Cottle and Marcus Thoon it felt a bit jarring realising that these added characters (Senator Wenutu, some Prince who I can't for the life of me remember his name sorry, and the 2nd of the Cylon IL Lachesis) have no importance or heard from again afterwards. Only Lachesis is mentioned once afterwards. To me it felt like one minute they were there and gone the next. Perhaps more cinematics explaining the political repercussions good, and or, bad of the actions taken by Colonial Fleet and how it affects the Qurom and the 12 colonies.

What would be a great Idea would be the inclusion of Character specific missions: For eg. one of the new added characters Senator Wenutu, I really liked what we saw and heard of her. You knew there was more going on there and the brief mission audio logs teased just enough to get you guessing on the greater implications of the missions. Perhaps helping senator Wenutu in her character missions improves relations with Canceron and by result gaining special bonuses or ship upgrades once you complete her missions. Whilst on the other hand lowering your reputation with the other colonies which may see you favouring Canceron over theres and only by completing there character specific missions do you regain there appreciation and commitment to the Qurom and colonial fleet. More on the upgrades - Does anyone remember the Galactica from blood and chrome? those increased gun batteries and armour could be an example of the upgrades i mentioned.

Others could be,

- Increased squadron size
- Flak that covers both sides of the ship
- 10% increase in light cannon damage

Also the Character of Lachesis itself could be a mission of its own altogether. Much like the resource missions that pop up occasionally maybe Lachesis could be one of those a resource mission that has you facing down a dozen or more cylon ships and Lachesis personal argos basestar. Now due to the issues of having to many ships on screen they could always jump in during stages of the fight. This battle could be seen as like a hard challenge mission only for players good enough to beat it.

Also It was nice to see the Minerva Class Battlestar hint at the pegasus and maybe a hint hint to the possibility of a Fall of the 12 Colonies DLC  hahah that would be awesome!

Another could be addressing the more redundant ship and fighter classes like the Atlas and Raptor.

The Raptor needs to have something more for its to be useful. Maybe an increase in the amount of rockets it has and also that they have the ability to lock on to enemy strike craft?
The Atlas is a tricky one, its a carrier so having tonnes of guns doesn't really fit its profile and having another fighter squadron puts it on par with a Argos basestar in terms of fighter capability. Maybe increase Atlas fighter squadron to 3 and Argos Basestar to 4 squadrons?

As for Possible future ships added to the next DLC - The Osiris from Blood and chrome would be cool idea. A stealth battlestar that remains unidentified until about 2000m from enemy ships and has a small limited flak field. 1 Fighter squadron, 1 missile slot.

Those are all the idea's I have so far. Curious to hear what else people are thinking. :D

How moddable is the game? Theres's no licencing reason the Theseus couldn't be included in a mod apart from how easy it is to add mods.

If you are referring to fan-made mods, we cannot do this and in my own opinion we shouldn't. The game has a clear setting, arch, and mechanics it just wouldn't make sense to plop something like a Mercury class Battlestar during the first cylon war when you look at all the care and attention the devs have taken to create cool back stories for all of them. If you meant for the devs to create and add new things, they have the tools to do this.

I think because the Theseus is a fan-made ship I think they would need permission for the creator (maybe wrong) But the story of the Theseus is that it's older than the Jupiter class Battlestar. It would make a nice pocket Battlestar.
