Re: Different skins
Kondi, terminator, thanks for sharing these. Kondi, you are talking about this Adherbal link, I believe, in which he urges custom skins to be stored in the C:\Users\[name]\Documents\My Games\Order of Battle - WW2\Skins folder instead of the skins folder in the game's program files. Apparently a unique file naming convention that he describes takes the place of what skins.txt does in the program files.
Is this in fact what you are doing and, not to question Adherbal of course, but does it work? When you place your skins files in \My Games\Order of Battle - WW2\Skins, do they indeed show up in these windows and are restricted to the faction(s) included in the file name?
Here's another crucial question: If all the above is true, when you go to change skins within the game, are the default skins still available along with your custom skins? In other words, when I do this, I still want to see the default Sand Storm and Desert Snakes AND your custom skins if applicable to this faction and unit, say:

Heck, it took less time to test this than to write my stupid post above!
The answer to all my questions is a resounding "YES." Ultra cool.

Re: Different skins
Fabulous. Thanks. Here's another question for you and Kondi, hopefully not as dumb as my last ones.
I notice that you, terminator, are making files 512 x 512 pixels according to Adherbal's instructions. This happens to be the same as the default skins in C:\Program Files\Slitherine\Order of Battle - WWII\Order of Battle - WW2_64_Data\Content\Graphics\Skins.
Whereas you, Kondi, are making your files 500 x 500 pixels according to the fellow that you quoted in your opening post. Yet, yours seem to be working out just as well. I wonder if 12 pixels on either side makes a difference at all? I would guess that yours is spread just a bit a bit more in each direction but 12 pixels / 500 is only 2.4% distortion, if any.

Re: Different skins
Heh, I will answer my own question once again. Answer: It does not seem to matter. I took one of Kondi's 500 x 500 files and "blew it up" to 512 x 512 pixels, below.
I saved both versions and had them available for selection; I could not tell the difference in the viewer . . .

Re: Different skins
. . . or on the unit itself:
The first is with the 500 x 500 skin and the second with the 512 x 512 skin. I cannot see any difference; maybe if I changed the variables to allow maxi-zoom but why bother? Either looks fine to me.
EDIT: Actually, there is a small difference if you look carefully. When I ran Kondi's file through my own photo editor program to resize it to 512 x 512, it seems to have lightened the image just a tad. This is not germane to the topic because I will continue to use Kondi's 500 x 500 versions as they are, but it's an interesting note about how saving an image in a different photo editor with just a small alteration in size can have unintended results.

Looks like there's more than one way to skin a big cat
Re: Different skins
You could use GIMP to somehow combine four textures
before dividing pixelation by 2 which somehow does not unsharp.

No criticism of you or terminator in that regard; it's just that when I get excited about something, I impatiently leap ahead for the answers. I got into the habit of answering my own questions in a previous life . . .kondi754 wrote:I'm sorry, I went shopping.Unread postby Deja Bru » 19 May 2018 17:22
