FoG:R Update - an update

Post by nikgaukroger »

As I have not yet had anything back from Slitherine about how they want the update distributed, and Godendag is very soon, I thought it would be good to share with people the documents that will feed into the formal update document.

These are in a zip file here - https://www.dropbox.com/s/bh3tpk2ck84gs ... s.zip?dl=0

Some you may have seen before. As they are still work in progress some still have references to add, but hopefully most things are clear.

Any chance of an update on the update update?

And it has

Following recent comments here are a set of updated draft documents.

I’ve remembered to include the Autobreak table this time – 2 versions, one for bases lost and one for bases remaining so you can use the one that you are comfortable with. Hopefully I got the numbers right … If in doubt the bases losses one is correct.

Updated the Artillery in Contact one as well – I’ve gone with just leaving the Art as it was before temporary capture for the cases where it is captured and the enemy BG is no longer in contact in the JAP and included a note at the end to make this (hopefully) clear as it is essentially a change from the original rules. Also updated the PoA table to take away the – PoA for captured/recaptured art shooting in line with this.

For those attending Godendag perhaps I could suggest that these are the docs we use – unless something egregious is spotted?

Apologies.

I realised I hadn't included all of the existing list errata in the list document and so removed the zip file whilst I updated it. Took rather longer than expected ...

The following link should now be OK.

The update gives how many commanded shot each army list can have, but not how many can be used in the allied lists. This needs to be defined.

Only apples to the Early TYWV Swedes. Here is a link to download an update of the lists document - https://www.dropbox.com/s/xqaq04vn37wz0 ... .docx?dl=0

Commanded Shot : Some clarifications

The effect of Protection only applies against mounted opponents and mitigates a – or - - PoA (see PoA tables) or Better Armour (see Battle Group Better Armour and Quality). If there is no PoA or Better Armour to negate, then a Protected file fights as 1 Quality Level higher for close combat dice re-rolls (but not for any other dice rolls).

1) mitigates a – or - - PoA, : So does that mean a -- is no PoA disadvantage or just reduced to a - . Implies its no PoA disadvantage
2) or Better Armour : As Protected Horse/Det Horse/Cavaliers ignore better armour anyway (when fighting mounted) why do we need this??

From the Quality rerolls and better armour section.

Types that ignore Better Armour:

• Shot
• Troops armed with Heavy Weapons
• Elephants
• War Wagons
• If fighting against mounted opponent:- Protected Horse, Protected Determined Horse, or Protected Cavaliers

Possible better wording.

The effect of Protection only applies against mounted opponents and mitigates a single – PoA (reducing -- to - or - to no PoA disadvantage) (see PoA tables). If there is no PoA to negate, then a Protected file fights as 1 Quality Level higher for close combat dice re-rolls (but not for any other dice rolls).

Hi Ben,

As ever thanks for the feedback.

As, IMO, the PoA table is clear about the effect I'm OK with what we have at present. the bit about better armour is, indeed, essentially redundant, but as a significant change from the printed rules I wanted to reinforce it.

However, as it is (alas) likely that there will be further tweaks needed to the various docs as players get to use them in play I will take the opportunity at a later date to amend if deemed necessary.

Another one that might need to be clarified

The minimum of mounted Battle Troops in the Core Troops section of the army list that must be fielded (if they don't already meet this) rises to 8 bases with the following exceptions:

• Later Spanish
• Covenanting Rebels
• Monmouth Rebellion
• Scots Jacobite

Perhaps this should include
Later Louis XIV French in Spain

As they have the 8 minimum reduced to 4 in Spain, as per * instructions, this will avoid complications as the above and the * in the French list clash and may cause arguments about which has precedence.

There are some others as well
Restoration British in Tangiers or Scotland

Possibly just a mention that any * exclusions for specific options take precedence.
