Vietnam '65 Major Update is Coming

Post by Daniele »

Hi all,

Since its release in March, Vietnam ’65 has gained the favour of an ever expanding fan community, and the developers have been working hard to make the game even better. Many suggestions and requests have been made and discussed, and the results of this fascinating joint venture between players and developers will soon be revealed in the form of a significant update of the game scheduled for the beginning of May!

This is the full list of changes and improvements:

New features:
- Fog of war.
- New VO for various events.
- Veteran game mode begins with a random starting loadout.
- Hex tile grid can be toggled on and off.
- Vietcong units have new animation when disbanding after combat.
- Villages play effects when H&M changes.
- Combat bonuses and penalties for terrain, spotting and weather.
- Helicopters do not get defensive bonuses.
- Ambushed units do not get defensive bonuses.
- New units are given names.
- Names for units are customisable.
- Weather.
- M113 has detection when carrying friendly infantry.
- VC cadres are more evasive and reactive.
- Elite difficulty: - Immediate defeat at <40 H&M or negative PP for a certain number of turns
- Villages start at a random H&M around 45 instead of 50
- Higher NVA / VC activity
- Less predictable VC activity

Custom settings:
Village H&M settings (starting value and random)
Victory mode (45 turns or to 60 HM score)
Starting PP
Game length for normal victory mode (30/45/60)
Starting units (fixed or random)
AI difficulty (normal, veteran, elite)
Rain settings (one of the 4 settings from Mild to Torrential)

- Rocks can no longer spawn under US bases in all cases.
- [STEAM] Fixed stat tracking for a few veteran-related achievements.
- [PC] S hotkey works correctly.
- Fixed minor typos.
- Enemy units no longer sometimes move further than they should.

General Changes:

What about the jungle border hexes? We know about the terrain through the combat modifiers??

What? It was said the reverse was intended: we have to quit the village to the info be renewed.

When the fire is burning, Intel is available to infantry. At present if a infantry unit was in a village at the start of of new turn and the fire come alight, the intel was not gathered, fixed in update. Remember, if fire is burning it means the intel conversation did not take place. :?

Hi

this is my first post concerning this game.

I had pleasure with it as it is the first tactic game i play where there is no front line and the ennemy is everywhere.
That's really fun to play.

However, i just have a bad word to say about it: the game is too easy.

After a couple of defeat at the beginning, i think i have understood how to proceed to win nearly each time.
Reco (so GB and visit of villages) is the clue and quick ability to hit is the other one's (Apache, art).
(After some medals, i have a air raid each turn now!! That's too much, imho).

I can not post screen (i think i don't have enough post on this forum) but in the last 7 games i played, i never had a score below 63 and my best is 82.

So the game became a bit boring for me now and i am sad because i like it.

So, i hope you will enhance the difficulty, i want a hard fight against horde of ennemies and some defeats (sometimes  ).
I am sure i am not the only one in this case.

Thanks in advance.

PS: sorry for bad English!

In the update we have included a custom game option wherein you can ratchet up the enemy difficulty to 'elite' , crank up the weather to 'typhoon' and increase jungle density and you will be lucky to win

Suggestion for a future expansion: Mekong Delta. Similar game but with swamp/river/rice padi terrain.

Hello. Will this update apply to IPad users as well? Is there any chance of having more units added in the future? Maybe machine gun squads and mortar teams and flamethrowers? Or even Huey's with rocket pods and machine guns to cover infantry when landing in a hot LZ. I am enjoying the game very much. The idea of medavac choppers are really cool too. I especially like how the awards and medals are part of your players uniform. I've never seen that done before and found it to be extremely rewarding. Thank you for taking a chance on something different.

In the upcoming free update we are enhancing the game substantially with new features incl weather, hex grids, unit naming etc.

We are currently also planning V'66 which will be an expansion pack which will include a full campaign and new units, incl inner Alia , Skyraiders, PBR, South Vietnamese militia, Marines, mortars etc etc

Yes it does look good.... :D Village and Unit names are awesome and I like the mine sweeping highlight very much. (I never understood what was covered during the sweep.)
