New FOGN tourney in Brisbane

Post by b20f08 »

Hi
Just putting it out there that I am running a new FOGN tourney in Brisbane on the w/end of 18/19 April. 2 scale divisions. Lots of prizes.
Tourney is HISTOREX I. If anyone is interested in attending let me know. Sorry for late notice but it only occurred to me to post here when someone who frequents this forum pointed it out to me yesterday.
Anyway I am really giving advance notice that HISTOREX II will be run at Orktoberfest (usually last weekend of October). Time to plan for this second event. Same format: 5 games. 3 hrs. First game random. Subsequent game: Swiss scoring. Two scale divisions. Et al.
Thanks.

Early Bird rego expires this Saturday. Price goes up on Saturday. PM me for details. Cheers. The tournament is called HISTOREX I (if the name clashes with existing tournament with same name, plz let me know so I can amend it). Cheers.

Hi all
Still places for the event in April. Now have a $20 entry for those wanting to just play the one day, as one has already indicated. Twelve have already committed but there's always room for more. Just register your interest here or PM me. Cheers.

Hi again
Been informed that someone tried unsuccessfully to PM me about entering the event. Somehow they got hold of me via another way so the problem has been sorted out. Strange thing to happen though. Still room for more who might want to attend. Cheers.

Oh and it might pay to post interest here and I'll get in touch if you can't PM me direct.

Hi all
A small field for the inaugural Historex tourney held in Brisbane over the weekend of the 18th/19th April. This is just a brief report; the full report will follow later.
Firstly, thanks to all the participants who eventually turned up. Special thanks must go to Tyler, Nigel and the dreaded Alex for showing up and teaching us borderliners how they play FoGN in the rest of the gaming community. Also, an especial thanks must go out to Andy and Bryce (both first-timers to FoGN at the tourney level) for helping out when one of the two scale divisions I had planned to run crashed due to lack of numbers/late withdrawals.
Anyway, to the interesting part. Once again Alex Inglis came, saw and conquered all. He can now wear the unofficial title of Queensland State champion (at least until October when we're holding the 'official' Queensland State Championship in October). Over five rounds, in the Year of the Francaise, the results were:

Alex Inglis, French 1812, 109.5
Clint Richards, French 1805, 104.5
Simon Evans, French 1812, 74
Tyler Jefferson, Prussian 1815, 72.5
Nik Linnell, Prussian 1813, 65
Andy Thompson, French 1809, 34
Nigel Brand, French 1806, 32.5
Bryce Simon, Austro-Hungarian 1809, 18
Garry Wait (last two rounds), Anglo-Portugese 1810, 29.5

Excuse the decimal places but I ran the scoring slightly different to the convention. Still, Alex's presence was as towering over the weekend as was his skill and total dominance on the table.
Tyler help in pointing out the numerous nuances that come with these rules was very much appreciated by one and all of us Queenslanders.
Nigel was still suffering from the effects of his ailment he received in the days preceding the event. At one stage, he lost his voice and had to communicate his moves and intentions to his opponent via pen and paper - which provided some comic relief.
Andy and Bryce helped out when we were down 15mm spares due to the cancellation of the 20-28mm class.

One of the biggest positives, from my perspective as TO, was that many of the Queensland players (and this TO) learnt much from having the lads from Victoria at the event.

We are nearly all enthused with the game and keen to continue the momentum provided by having this event, endeavouring to make it an annual thing. Also, no biggie for now, there still remain differences in interpretation of the wording of the rules. That's an issue that no doubt has been sorted out by the wider FoGN community. It should settle down for us at least in our part of Queensland once we grow accustomed to playing it more often at club and event-level.

Thanks again to our local/overseas sponsors who were very generous in their prize support.

Once again, congratulations to Alex on winning the event. Hope you can come back next year to defend your claim to be Overlord and Protector of South East Queensland (or Brisbane at least).

Lawrence T (TO)

The next FoGN event for Brisbane, which will be the 'official' Queensland State Championship, is scheduled for the last weekend of October. It will be renamed HistorX 2. Cheers. :D

Normally it's the last weekend of October but don't quote me until I get confirmation from the Club Secretary. It would be nice to see overseas visitors. :D
