A very interesting suggestion was posted on this thread regarding the number of seasons. I'd like to know your opinions before making a change.

4 seasons seem logical to me, according the gameplay is balanced for it, of course (R&D rate, mission durations & travels to other planets etc...). Given the number of programs and missions available, having 1 more turn per year would'nt be a bad thing (right now, it is nearly impossible to follow historical schedule, and this is going to be far worse with Apollo & (I hope) Soyuz additions...).

I find that 4 seasons per year is more realistic. This will simulate 4 quarters of the year, each one being a 3 months and a bit.

This has given me some thought, because, as a BARIS player, I initially thought that two seasons per year would be ok. Then, I thought some more, and I ended up deciding that 4 seasons are actually best for managing than two, and are more "logical" than 3.
So, 4 it is!

I fully support the addition of four years.
As of now, it's nearly impossible to follow a historical schedule without falling into deep debt, as there are too few seasons (And so, R&D progresses slowly and flights are limited per year), and the gap widens greatly as the years go by (My first manned EVA took place in 1972...and that's when I was trying to run my program at maxiumun effiecency.)

as i said before 4 are better then 3 because a manned landing mission in the year 1990 is not so realistic i think. we´ve got more time to research .

The number of seasons should work with the speed of R&D. In BARIS, you could average 17.5% improvement if you bought 5 dice, er... R&D teams. BASPM limits how much progress can be made as reliability gets near max R&D reliability, so it takes more seasons, hence the need for more seasons.
tl;dr The R&D rate, seasons per year, and prestige goals should work together and be fairly historical.

I guess we'll have to tune that during the next few weeks. A year ago, SPM used a similar system than the one used in BARIS (i.e., you "bought" RD teams) and back in the day I actually managed to tweak the spreadsheet so that you can reproduce the same timelines that occurred in real life. Now that we've introduced the concept of personnel and skills and the fact that not all SET employees contribute to the final improvement outcome in the same way, we've a lot more moving parts so we need to tweak the values again.jgf1123 wrote:The number of seasons should work with the speed of R&D. As far as I can tell, the game is much better now, with 4 seasons. Gives you the time to do more stuff, that was really needed given the variety of programs IMHO.
