batesmotel (Ghaznavids) 35/41
aristides (Nikephorian Byzantine-Late) 39/39

This was a nail biter for the last few turns. I was ahead by 7 AP or so before Aristides left but after first pair of turns we played today I was down by 7 or or so. Fortunately the Ghaznavids managed to hang in there and finally pull it out including the valiant defense by our camp servants from a marauding Byzantine LF. Fortunately the Byzantine servants weren't as resilient and the camp fell. In the end the Ghaznavid elephants and the Dailami were the decisive troops in the victory.

Thanks for an enjoyable game. Well played, Aristides. No Ghaznavid commanders were lost and I don't think any Byzantine ones were either. Byzantine cmp was looted.

I just thought id share my thoughts on this campaign and get some feed back from other players.Ive enjoyed this campaign but feel its begining to get monotonous.Dont take this the wrong way Mac as i think youve done well since youve taken over :D It just seems there are now 2 distinct groups of players those down the bottom(Me  ) and those at the very Top.No chance for the bottom dwellers which is fair enough but some players are getting a lot more battles than others awell. How to fix it i dont really know maybe once youve been challanged twice then you cant accept any more. Honestly after this round im willing to sit out and let the top 4 bash away at each other to see who gets the crown. Its been a very enjoyable campaign and well run with different ideas and great players to do battle with. This only my opinion and im willing to take any critsism so over to the rest of you

I agree with '64.
It's great to play within some organised sytem, but...

A campaign system should allow for bold, decisive moves on the campaign scale that result in at least the possibility of a battle that will turn the situation around - jacta the alea. In a system like we have currently you cannot have a Plataea or a Hastings - or should i say a Manzikert.

Armies have infinite movement (i.e., anyone can attack anyone) so strategic position is irelevent, and there is very little scope for any kind of alliance or truce.
Essentially we are playing an ongoing league with uneven numbers of games.

Is anyone familiar with stockwellpete's FoG campaign system?

One of the problems with a map based campaign is that it gennerally restricts who you can attack as you need to share a border. A possibility if you want map position to be more important would be to setup two sides, for say Swords and Scimitars it could be Crusaders and Saracens. One side playing Christian armies and the other Islamic and Nomadic (Bulgars, Cumans, Mongols, etc.). Rise of Rome could be Rome and its few faithful allies (Pergamum, etc.) against the world.

It seems we began in February.

Given that we've been playing the same campaign with the same armies for over half a year, I must say it's getting tedious. :)

Especially with LOEG starting and all...

Yes Feb 20 is when i think it all started for me,Aristides,Tivials,Phlewis and Batesmotel.Dont know what Mac thinks but Top Four to battle it out after this season may be a good way to wind it all up.If i remember correctly originayl Batesmotel was Knocked out with loss of an IC but we changed the rules otherwise it would turn into a knock out comp.Maybe Everyone plays with an IC and if killed thats it your out that, may spice the comp up aswell :)

Exactly, that's the whole point... Where you decide to mobilise/manoeuvre your army becomes an important factor. You could play with seasons and maybe in winter you can withdraw armies and reset their position for spring, but at least for a while, if you commit to an area/enemy, you fight there for a while.

Anyway, challenges: Tiavals and bates, pw tiavals and bates

Excuse the slow reply to this, been a bit too busy.

The big problem we face is that there are 54 provinces up for grabs and we have claimed 25, so no one is actually fighting over provinces. It would have been better if the provinces had been divided up to begin with and the result of a battle wouldn't have been points but the gain or loss of a province. This would have course knocked out a couple of people already and what happens to them?

In answer to Aristides point, I agree with him but this campaign was never meant to be like that, although it ccould have been arranged like that with a bit of fiddling. No haven't seen Pete's system but will give it a look

Now what we need to do is decide how we reach a conclusion. My thought is we close the unclaimed provinces and then try and destroy everyone else, we would of course need some sort of ballot as too who attacks who in the fight for provinces.

Cheers macsen
