batesmotel (Crown of Castile) 49/67
ericdoman1 (Condotta-Milan) 53/53
Tactical(?) Victory: 15.00%

The battle for Lombardy has ended and if I read the rules correctly, Castile just missed taking the Province and eliminating Milan from the game.

Thanks for a fun campaign, Lysimachos.

That's right Chris, because the rules state that "if – using the formula: a (total BG difference between the rout threshold of two armies) : b (total BGs of both armies) = x : 100 – it will represent up to the 15% of it then a tactical victory will be achieved, whereas if it will surpass it a strategic victory will follow."

The Venetian Ambassador in Rome reports that the battle for Lazio is ended with a complete defeat of the Papal forces and that the Venetian army has entered the Holy City installing a new Pope on St. Peter's Seat. This is the greatest achievement of the Serenissima Republic and crowns the substantial conquest of Italy!

Warning to all players!

As soon as the Aragonese attack from Sardinia to Corsica and the Milanese attack from Liguria to Emilia will be decided the final standings of the whole campaign will be published.

Guido, I am still following the campaign and I have noticed that the Milanese no longer hold Liguria so they cannot attack Emilia. When I checked back though I found this . . . Eric indicated the Milanese would launch an attack on Emilia on 29 September (page 17 of this thread); TGM was chosen to be his opponent by lottery on 30/9 (page 18); no result seems to have been posted for that match (did it ever start or is it still in progress?); batesmotel attacked Liguria from Provence on 11 October (page 19) and successfully conquered it.

I don't think the rules say anything about this situation, but if Eric's attack on Emilia had not started by the time the Castilians took Liguria then perhaps it should automatically fail. Perhaps the campaign needs a "timing-out" rule for these circumstances e.g. games must get underway within a certain period, maybe.

Well Pete, the rules say nothing because .. nothing is to be said! 8)

When writing them I willingly decided of not treating the case because the only way to prevent such situation was to ban the faculty of attacking a province used as a base for another attack. But this would have meant that attack actions could be used not only for gaining new territories but also for denying other players the chance of attacking the provinces used as a starting point, a solution worse than the problem it had to solve, expecially if you think to a mischievous behaviour where a player, wanting to preserve a determined provinces of his own, uses it as a base for other attacks, playing them very slowly and immediately launching a new attack after the failure of the previous.

So, in the present situation, given the fact that the Milanese attack was launched before the Castilian action, it may be completed as the army is intended to have left its starting base just the day when the action was declared. And if the MIlanese will win a strategical victory, they'll have full right of conquering Emilia.

I am afraid I am probably at fault here.

I thought I wasn't involved in the campaign anymore and shouldn't have attacked emilia.

Also I had stopped receiving emails with ref to this campaign so I hadn't really checked anything.

I only knew batesmotel was attacking me as Chris pmd me.

An interesting campaign, nevertheless and would have probably been more enjoyable if I had started at the beginning
So I wish to call that off, even though I probably can not attack now.

Given the fact that also Mike, who PM me, has declared to call off his attack from Sardinia to Corsica, the campaign is now ended and this are the final standings:

Venetians (Lysimachos) 89
Castilians (batesmotel) 79
Hafsids (hidde) 60
Aragonese (Triarius) 51
Ottomans (TheGrayMouser) 45
Mamluks (kilroy) 41
Byzantines (iandavidsmith) 39
Milanese (Stockwellpete) 38

Thank's to every gamer for having joined the campaign playing fairly and intensely, and also for the patience showed in accepting a lot of rule's changes made "on the road"!
I hope they will help in building up a final version of the Campaign Statute, available also for future games.

Below I post also a conclusive summary of the condition of each Nation, recapping the overall situation at the end of the campaign.

Thanks for running the campaign , you put a lot of effort into it and i really enjoyed it.
It took a while for me to get used to the rules i must say.
I really like the "real time' aspect of it as it means you have to be on the ball.
As one of the weaker players it was hard for me to make an impact but i enjoyed
and the game and would like to play again if invited.

off now to get my Lotto ticket in ;-D

Many thanks
Ian

The Milanese were doing OK until that Eric Sforza chap took over! Especially the goats of Samos!

A very good campaign. Lots of great ideas. I will miss the next one out though as I am not playing FOG again until the new version is out. Cheers! :D
