Spring, Year 1 of the Century of the Enlightened Turbot
The Known World is ripe for the taking. Twelve warlords have arisen and strive against one another for mastery....

For the first season, I have randomised the player list and assigned each player two games versus the next two players in the list. Everyone will get four games in the first season (two as attacker, two as defender), after which we can descend into a free for all As it is Spring the challenges should be 400 points - REMEMBER that your mercenary army can only be used once per season!

Re: To Forge an Empire
To Forge an Empire
A Campaign for Field of Glory
Immortal Fire
Background
The Known World abounds with city-states and small nations, all competing for wealth, territory and prestige. However, none of them have your vision, an empire of cities and nations to sprawl across the world...
The Campaign
To win the campaign a player must control six city-states and/or regions, referred to as 'territories'. Territories are assigned based on the player's current Renown score:
0 - 99 No territories
100 - 299 One
300 - 599 Two
600 - 999 Three
1000 - 1499 Four
1500 - 1999 Five
2000+ Six
Each turn represents one season. Seasons affect the number of troops that can be raised:
Spring 400 points
Summer 500 points
Autumn 300 points
Winter Reorganisation
Each player must choose a 'Region' to belong to. This affects which army lists are available, though each faction may have one army list available from another region as a mercenary force. See the scoring section below for the effect of mercenaries. Each winter, a new mercenary army must be chosen. After the first year, each player has the option of choosing a different region (just in case you are hating the lists you have chosen).
The Map
The map is a graphical representation of the current size of each player's empire. It has no strategic function in the campaign but is there for flavour and bragging rights.
https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=40461478 ... 6F26%21220
Armies and Battles
Each player starts with their region's army lists from ‘Immortal Fire’ plus one mercenary list. Any list may be used in each attack (with the exception of the mercenary list which can be used once per season) and can be tailored as required; army composition is not fixed in any way. A non-mercenary list can be used for no more than three consecutive seasons - it must then be 'rested' for at least one active season (Spring, Summer, Autumn). A player may attack twice per season.
https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=40461478 ... 6F26%21225
Battles should be fought with Fog of war and Double moves ON. The attacker should host a battle of the relevant size for the season.
Scoring Renown
Battles are where Renown is won and lost.
Battle (Army points / 2) - ( (BP lost / Starting BP) * (Army points / 2) )
Winning +0
Winning with mercenary army -10 (minimum 0)
Own camp looted -20
Enemy commander killed, Troop +5
Enemy commander killed, Field +10
Enemy commander killed, Inspired +20
Resigning a battle -(100 + ( (BP lost / Starting BP) * (Army points / 2) ))
Note: Hellenistic Eleian list may not use Roman allies (nor can any other lists that have slipped through the net )

Re: To Forge an Empire
I believe I will take the Southern list. I love my chariots.
Re: To Forge an Empire
It's a bold choice, but I like it! I am torn at the moment... Southern has some attraction as I have got the Egyptian lists to work a little bit. Asiatic is a bit munchkin, as is Macedonian. I loves me some HF armoured spears but Hellenic has little else. Barbarian is a bit of a wild card and Eastern is ellies and archers... Where to start?

Re: To Forge an Empire
I have a preference for the Macedonians, Barbarians as a backup.
Re: To Forge an Empire
I'm bad enough to get away with a munchkin pick so I'll go asiatic please.
Also the second link just takes me to a windows live ID sign in? Is it supposed to do that?
Also Also when do we pick our mercs and do we ever get to change them?

Re: To Forge an Empire
I will take Macedonian with Greaco Bactrian as mercenaries.
Re: To Forge an Empire
'Munchkin' was perhaps a little unfair I'll check out the link now and try to sort it out. Mercs are selected at start-up and must be changed every winter season.Radio wrote:I'm bad enough to get away with a munchkin pick so I'll go asiatic please.

Edit: Have changed spreadsheet to image so should work now.

Added option to change region after the first year in case anyone is saddled with a region they are not enjoying.

I find that the windows links (skydrive.live.com) don't work in Chrome. Seem to work in IE and in Firefox.keyth wrote:'Munchkin' was perhaps a little unfair I'll check out the link now and try to sort it out. Re: To Forge an Empire
I would like to join in if there's room. Since two people have already called Macedon, I'd like to be Easteren with Lysimachid mercenaries.
Deeter.

I've got the scoring spreadsheet primed and ready to roll, we have enough players... all we need is a few players to make decisions and we can get rolling!
