I apologise unreservedly if my comment caused any offence. It wasn't meant in any negative way, it just made me chuckle. SorryJonah75 wrote:I apologise in advance for every future ignorant typo, spelling mistake and grammatical failing. I have set up battles - pw Jonah75

Re: The War for Civilisation
I set up a challenge awhile back - sorry for the confusion. I accepted your challenge today, but you have set it as RoR only - I was planning on using the appropriate Syracusian army from IF. Maybe try accepting my challenge?
Re: The War for Civilisation
My battle versus Aristides was going well. I had 21 BP caused to him, with 0 to myself.
Then my Inspired leader got killed. My BP losses were now 1.
Does this mean it's bye-bye to much of my empire?

It was our mission to assassinate the King of Macedon as a tyrant and oppressor of the people!Tiavals wrote:My battle versus Aristides was going well. I had 21 BP caused to him, with 0 to myself.

Uproar and rebellion across the Macedonian empire, as generals and liberation movements via for control! BRILLIANT!

Macedonian battle report
Roman Province 55
23/39 vs 44/44, my victory.
Lost IC.
The Macedonian Successor state will soon fall and give in to the Later Macedonians, due to their empire being shaken by revolts.
Do I gain the roman province before or after the effects of my loss of IC are calculated?

Re: The War for Civilisation
Yes, it's nice to have a slight role-playing element. Amazingly I'd already decided on the somewhat anachronistic almost marxist 'popular control' aspect of Rome after the capital fell, and then we got patriotic surge!
And now we have assassinated a King!

Re: The War for Civilisation
The people of Syracusa have thrown off the yolk of tyrrany and joined the PR!
A decisive victory for my Romans vs. Jonah's Syracusan Greeks: 49/39 vs 20/44.
Despite being outnumbered, the PR came within an inch of regaining the Eternal City...
Morbio's Carthies beat my Romans 55/51 to 51/53 - so close! Jonah, am I right in thinking if I had a got the draw it would have made no difference?
Wondering outloud... In a campaign context it maybe seems counter-intuitive that a draw or a complete thrashing mean the same thing (also that a really decisive victory with very few losses means the same thing as a 'Pyrrhic victory' where both armies are decimated...)

Re: The War for Civilisation
An extremely close battle, one of the closest I've had for a long time. Great play by Aristides interspersed with some wild dice on both sides. It looked at one time that Carthage was going to slay the Roman leader with him being fragmented early on, despite this it was clear why he is classed as an inspired leader because he rallied his unit and ultimately they were steady and still charging the enemy at the end.Aristides wrote:Despite being outnumbered, the PR came within an inch of regaining the Eternal City...

In my opinion if a battle is a draw then it means 'no change', so the defender keeps his territory... the agressor has to win to take the land.
In terms of scale of victory, then I think that is really difficult to accommodate in FoG. It becomes an administrative nightmare to keep track of units and points. From a playability point of view; a losing country, particularly if it has a bad defeat, will soon become unplayable. I think we should avoid this... one of the reasons I'm enjoying this campaign so far is that every battle I've had has been close.
Obviously Jonah will need to make a ruling here.

Re: The War for Civilisation
Turn 2 Battles
Neutral Minor City 51
Aristides 450 (patriotic surge) Romans vs Jonah75 450 (minor city) Greeks
Rome is victorious and Aritides captures neutral minor city 51.
Carthaginian Major City 46
Aristides 550 (war leader amd patriotic surge) Romans vs Morbio 600 (Major City and war war leader) Carthaginians
Carthage is victorious and Morbio keeps major city 46
Seleucid Province 19
Tophat 550 (war leader and patriotic surge) Ptolemaics vs Turk1964 400 Selucids
Ptolemaics are victorious and Tophat captures province 19
Ptolemaic Province 20
Turk1964 500 (war leader) Selucids vs Tophat 400 Ptolemaics
Selucids are victorious and Turk1964 captures province 20
Neutral Province 32
Morbio 400 Carthaginians vs Jonah75 400 Numbians
Carthage is victorious and Morbio captures province 32
Neutral Province 39
Morbio 400 Carthaginians vs Jonah75 400 Iberians
Cartage is victorious and captures province 39
Roman Province 55
Tiavals 500 (War Leader) Macedonians vs Aristades 450 (Patriotic Surge) Romans
Macedonia is victorious and Tiavals captures province 55
BUT – Macedonian war leader slain – empire in chaos – usurpers take power in Major City 14 and Major City 12*
Neutral Province 54
Tiavals 400 Macedonians vs 400 Jonah75 Illyrians
Macedonia is victorious and Tiavals captures province 54
* At the point I rolled the Macedonian capital reverting to neutrality, I had to decide whether this fulfilled the criteria for ‘loss of capital’ consequences – I decided it did not, representing internal chaos rather than a major foreign invasion. In the case of Athens, I have decided that this province was liberated with the help of Spartan agents and will have its neutrality defended by later Spartans.
Random Event is Winds of Change - effecting 46, 41 and 21 (entirely randomised!)
Maps etc emailed to all players.
Re - the consequences of a draw - i think a minor change to make the Battle VPs shared would be appropriate.
