To Ironclad;
Thanks for your kind words, and sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I really enjoyed our game, and it could easily have gone either way for a long time there, but you held on and saw it through...as in ran me through. Congrats on a great game very well played!

Re: Rulers of Xth century Levant
Given the fact that the match between Londo and MikeMarchant shoul be finished we are now ready to start the 2nd round of the tournament.
The new matches are these:
• Abbasids (Londo) - Fatimids (Ironclad)
• Hamdanids (NikiforosFokas) - Georgians (MikeMarchant)
• Musafarids (allendeuce) - Byzantines (Lysimachos)
and the home players may now launch the challenges.
P.S.
Londo or MikeMarchant should post the result of their match in order to let me calculate the standings.

Re: Rulers of Xth century Levant
MikeMarchant's Georgians 57/55 - Londo's Abbasid's 46/68
I had two cavalry units in the process of looting Londo's camp, but hadn't succeeded by the end. I can't find any evidence of his C-in-C on the field, so may have killed him. That's a detail I would have noted if it had been my job to report the result, but didn't and can no longer remember. Perhaps Londo can confirm one way or the other.
Well done, Londo, thanks for the game.
Best Wishes

Re: Rulers of Xth century Levant
MikeMarchant's Georgians 52/55 (95%) have scraped a narrow win over NikiforosFokas' Hamdanids 73/72 (100%)
Although the Hamnadids held a numerical advantage throughtout, the Georgians, with their hordes of cavalry generally had the superior position. The multiple strikes on the Hamnadid's rear on the final two turns finished the Hamnadid's off, but it was a really close call and could have gone either way.
Neither camp was looted, but the Hamdanid's C-in-C did sacrifice himself to the cause.
Bad luck, Kostas, and thanks for en enjoyable game, as always.
Best Wishes

Re: Rulers of Xth century Levant
Having had no news from Londo about his match vs MikeMarchant I decided to credit Mike of the killing of his opponent's C-in-C and adjusted the standings taking care of this situation.
My match vs allendeuce is now running toward the end ..
Any news of that between Londo and Ironclad?

Re: Rulers of Xth century Levant
Apologies, there was a minor crisis at Chez Londo, and I was not able to spend much time at the computer this past week. Everything's fine now.
Mike: thanks for reporting the result, and congrats on your victory, just a couple of days after our battle ended - you don't waste time!
In the Abbasid-Georgian game, the Abbasid C-in-C managed to avoid the forest of Georgian lances, and was alive and well at the end.
Ironclad: challenge posted, pw ironclad
Good luck!

Lysimachos Byzantines 45/54 - allendeuce Musafarids 59/57
Thank's to Jim for a very intense match where both left flanks ovverun the opposite right wings, being the battle finally decided
by the Byzantine cavalry the was quicker to reach the centre in order to deliver the decisive blow!
No camp sacked, no C-in-C killed.

Re: Rulers of Xth century Levant
It was a very fun, very close game, until his cav came around the flank. My inf had flanked him at about the same time, each of us on the other's right, but his cav were quicker and tougher in the attack on the center. a really fun game; thanks, Lysimachos!
Re: Rulers of Xth century Levant
Londo (Abbasids) 46/67 - Ironclad (Fatimids) 77/76
Both sides had more powerful left flanks which crushed their opposition. In the centre, Abbasid Dailami blasted a hole through the Fatimid infantry line, but were eventually worn down by enemy weight of numbers. The true heroes for the Abbasids were poor defensive spearmen in the centre, who, with the aid of a hill, withstood a series of attacks by Fatimid foot and superior lancers. In fact, these spearmen routed several of their assailants back through other Fatimid units, wrecking the Fatimid attack and guaranteeing victory for Abbasids.
Camps were not looted, but the Abbasid C-in-C was killed on the last turn of the battle, darn it!
Thanks to Ironclad for a very good game.

Re: Rulers of Xth century Levant
Congratulations to Londo on a very well deserved victory. His deployment was a study in how to make excellent use of the field and the the varying qualities of his troops which drew my forces into unfavourable fights on both flanks. By turn four my losses were at 28 to his 8 and the writing was on the wall for my larger army.

Re: Rulers of Xth century Levant
Ironclad (Fatimids) 61/76 defeated MikeMarchant (Georgians) 56/55
What at times seemed like a complicated battle settled down into a more traditional one. A massed cavalry fight when the Fatimids challenged the strong sweeping drive by the longer Georgian right flank. The almost separate action on the opposite end of the long front where unfavourable terrain allowed a Fatimid mixed force to halt a Georgian cavalry push. Whilst in the centre the outnumbered Georgians, cleverly used their own medium archers to back up spoling attacks by their bold infantry and cavalry supports against the enemy infantry.
In the end the Fatimids prevailed thanks mainly to their greater numbers and some fortunate outcomes in the crucial cavalry encounters. Camps and C in Cs survived.
Thanks to Mike for a great fight.

Re: Rulers of Xth century Levant
The Musafarids (allendeuce) 51/57, (89%) defeated the Hamdanids (NikiforosFokas) 72/65 (100%) in a very close contest that swung back and forth for quite a while.
The Musafarids set up mostly on a hill on their right flank, with their allies and all the cavalry on the left. At the end, only one lone Kurdish cavalry remained of the left, and maybe 2 allied HF, in bad shape; the rest of the allies and the left flank were just gone!
The Musafarids charged down off the hill after the Hamdanid infantry, including some traitorous Dailami, and finally crushed them. The enemy CinC was routed, but lived to fight another day. No camps or camp followers were molested...we are, after all, all gentlemen here.
Great game, Kostas! Very exciting and a lot of fun, as usual with you.
