THIS! IS! SPARTA!
Londonidas (Classical Sparta) 36/55 - Jonathan (Galatians) 51/50
The Spartan armour POA, plus the POA for steady spears against swordsmen, put the Galatians at a disadvantage in melee which could not be overcome. And on top of that, there was the horde of 2 point LF and Helot Mobs that the Spartans bulked up BP with. (If I had taken hoplites instead of those, the Spartan BP would have been around 35.)
I think Classical Spartan is the best all-round army in the game, better even, on balance, than perennial favourites like Seleucid or Swiss.

Re: Immortal Fire Triple Life Tournament
Just so everyone is aware, I will be on a work trip for the next 3 weeks and so my administration of the tournament and actually playing may be a bit delayed.
As it stands right now, we have a bunch of second-round matches being played and finished. We are currently waiting for the final first-round match between TheGrayMouser and Okie to finish before third-round matches can be played. So there is some flexibility in playing the next round before all previous rounds are finished but I would prefer to limit this to one round ahead to not confuse the structure (and me!).

batesmotel (Later Alexandrian Macedonian) 26/42 beat stockwellpete (Early Colonial Greek) 63/62
The Greeks made skillful use of the hills in their set on but got their hoplites bunched together enough that the MAcedonians were able to benefit from routing untis through each other in addition to other morale drops in the poor colonial hoplites once the average Athenian crust was broken. Thanks for the game.

Yuknoom's Galatians 27/46 defeated Praeter's Persians 44/43.
My opponent's Persians faced a dilemma as my 2 possible choices, Galatians (bring lots of cavalry), or Early Hoplites (don't) required diametrically opposed builds on his part. When he got no useful terrain for his MI my HI impact foot proved difficult to stop.

Re: Immortal Fire Triple Life Tournament
MikeMarchant's Sarmatians (28/40) beat PaulMcneil's Skythians (49/48).
Despite a battlefield cluttered with hills and rough terrain, the Skythians had a really tough time coping with the weight of the Sarmatian army. Heavy horse cut through everything, left and right, fighting in rough terrain and uphill. A thankless task for the much lighter Skythians.
Bad luck, Paul, a really tough matchup for you.
Best Wishes
Mike
