Jonathan4290 (Skythians) 13/63 defeats Stockwellpete (Alexandrian Macedonian later) 23/44 resigned

Terrain was basically a forest, the most crowded DAG battlefield I think there is. Nothing for the Macedonians to do.

batesmotel (Early Achaemenid-Cyrus) 15/50 beat hidde (26th Dynasty Eqyptian (54/54)

The Persians were able to choose a map with lots of terrain and hills they could occupy. While the hoplites heroically attempted to close with the Persian archers the combination of the terrain to slow them and the hills and bad terrain to defend proved an insurmountable obstacle for the hoplites. Thanks for the game.

Londo (Persians) 8/49 - Ian (Skythians) 53/53

Not much Ian could do. Skythians lose on impact against most of the Persian troops, lose in melee, and lose a shooting match too.

Persians may often have had trouble fighting Greeks and Romans, but they knew how to handle the horse tribes of Central Asia - having originally been one of those themselves.

Londo (Persians) 20/55 - Mike (Sarmatians) 50/37

The battle was fought on an open plain. A huge block of Sarmatian cavalry came thundering down the middle, armoured ones to the front, protected ones behind. Facing them in the Persian centre were Lydian and Assyrian HF, and behind them a line of Immortals.

The Lydians and Assyrians did a great job, but were ultimately overwhelmed. The Immortals held, however. Meanwhile, Median cavalry and MF were pressing on the Sarmatian flanks. Ultimately the Sarmatians had too many threats to deal with, from too many directions.

A great battle, and one in which I was completely outplayed by a better player.

Thanks for the game (and the lesson), Paul.

Best Wishes
