Eternal Empire tournament - main thread/post your results
Note: there are currently only 18 players at this time. Recruitment will continue up to a maximum of 20 players.
Important dates:
- April 16: pool stage begins (arrange your own matches via thread and PM)
- June 11: pool stage ends
- June 12: quarter-finals begin
- June 27: semi-finals begin
- July 11: finals begin
Structure of tournament:
- There are 4 pools of 5 players each (well, there will be)
- Each player will be assigned a random army from a select list of Eternal Empire armies but are allowed to veto one army
- You will play each player in your pool once in a mirror match, one with your drawn army, one with your opponent's drawn army
- 3 pts awarded for win, 1 pt awarded for draw of any sort (e.g. if you win both games in your mirror match, you receive 6 pts)
- Top 2 players in each pool advance to quarter-finals
- Quarter-finals/semi-finals/finals all decided by mirror match where combined scores decide winner on percentage (e.g. if player A's combined BPs for both matches is 93/100 (93%) and player B's is 70/76 (92.1%), player B is victorious)
- Games not completed by deadlines are subject to adjudication
Arranging matches:
- Players are responsible for arranging matches
- Post challenge in this thread AND PM to ensure your opponent saw it
- It is advised to begin at least 2 mirror matches against 2 opponents immediately to ensure players have head start on pool stage deadline
Rules of games:
- Armies will consist of 500 pts
- You may customize your army before each match
- Fog of war and double moves will be used
- Digital League rules on army size/composition do not apply
Posting results:
- Winners of each individual match are responsible for posting result in this thread; I will periodically update the results table

Pool D
MikeMarchant's Later Lithuanians (29/29) achieved an honourable draw with Majandro's Later Hungarians (32/31).
A great swirling mass of a battle that starred Majandro's Amazing Performing Defensive Spear - they danced; they sang; they charged into swamps and beat up MF; and they charged knights full frontally and crushed them. Sadly, they didn't make coffee. Maybe next time.
Thanks for the game, Alex, a lot of fun, and look forward to the next.
Best Wishes

PeterGuest's Byzantines defeat Voskarp's Timurids, 16/47 vs 32/25
The Timurids were horribly outnumbered and their expensive mounted bowmen had all sorts of problems with the Byzantine lancers. Thanks for the game.

oops! Quite right - Voskarp was the Timurid Great Khan not Majandro (post amended). Apologies to both for the mix-up (the Byzantine general needs to cut down on his gin and tonic consumption!)

MikeMarchant's Hungarians (20/29) beat Majandro's Lithuanians (36/36) in an exiting and close mirror match game.
The score might not reflect it very accurately, but this game was a lot closer than might be suggested. A tough battle and a fun one, thanks Majandro, and bad luck.

Pool D
PeterGuest's Timurids defeated Voskarp's Byzantines, 16/33 vs 58/47
I recruited a couple of elephants to try and upset the Byzantine lancers. Had to protect them against swarms of enemy skirmishers so took a while to get them into the front line, but once there they caused havoc among the Byzantine ranks. Thanks for the games!
PeterGuest's Hungarians defeated Majandro's Byzantines, 20/37 vs 57/46. Majandro quickly took the hills after which the Hungarians had to be patient and use their superior fire power to shift the Byzantines. Despite some crazy heavy cavalry charges, the Hungarian artillery did just enough to give their infantry a foothold and win the day. Cheers!

Re: Eternal Empire tournament - main thread/post your result
Competitors,
As you may have noticed from Cothyso's announcement, FOG 2.0 appears to actually be imminent: viewtopic.php?f=84&t=64076. While this is welcome news, it will affect the tournament as it will remove games from the server. We will take a tactical pause and continue the tournament from its current place when FOG 2.0 is up and running.
This is how it will work:
1) All completed matches and results will carry over into when we resume, as will pools and army draws.
2) Complete all current in-progress matches as quickly as possible. Keep track of scores of any games in case they are removed suddenly. I will adjudicate in-progress matches with players' input as best I can.
3) Do not begin any more matches until the new version.
4) I will alert everyone when new version is out and adjust dates accordingly.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to message me.
Jon

Pool D
MikeMarchant's Lithuanians (15/33) beat Voskarp's Timurids (25/25)
Terrains was very helpful witht his, with a tree line fillled with archers and other MF, the Timurids stood off in line, returning fire with devestating effect. The Lithianins flanking attack came out to the tree line to their left and started to do serious damage. Once battle was well joined on that flank and the Timuids were being pushed back the main line charged from the trees and finished the job.
Bad luck, oskar, and thanks for the game.

MikeMarchant's Lithuanians (24/33) beat Gurdgebringer's Hungarians (38/36)
A confusing whirling mass that neither of us could control or make predictions about the outcome. The luck fell on my side though.
Thanks for a great game, Grudge.

Pool B
Yuknoom's Byzantines 21/35 defeated Tonycraven's Teutonic knights 33/31.
Rough terrain divided the battlefield into distinct sectors, and the more nimble Byzantines were better able to concentrate force between sectors as needed. Not knowing when the hammer would fall, we both rushed a bit to make sure we got it done, and for this my opp should be commended .
That leaves only my game with Jonathan hanging until The Cataclysm. -Yuk

Pool B
Jonathan4290 (Golden Horde) 35/41 defeats Yuknoom (Byzantine Trebizond) 36/35
The Mongols struggled to find open space to hit and run early on but were fortunate enough to have firing positions in a long rough patch of forest until other forces were able to get around Byzantine flanks. A very close game that would have went the other way in another turn.
