Habsburg Imperial Austrian - possible erratum

Post by rbodleyscott »

In the Habsburg Imperial Austrian list we have the special campaign for the Siege of Vienna:
Relief of Vienna and aftermath, 1683
Up to 1/3 of the army’s points can be spent on troops from the Later Polish and Lithuanian list and up to 1/3 on troops from the Later German States army list. Minima, other than commanders, must be adhered to, but otherwise any eligible troops may be selected. No allies are allowed. All commanders count in line of command to all troops in the army. The C-in-C is Polish.

It seems to be practically impossible to make an army with the minima from all 3 armies as this seems to require.

Should we put an errata to the effect that the minima must be adhered for the ally lists for all three armies. (Or possibly for the main Austrian list, and the Polish and German ally lists).

The maxima should also probably be taken from the ally lists, at least for the Poles and Germans.

I suggest using the minima and maxima from the main Austrian list plus the minima and maxima from the Polish and German ally lists, unless the Austrian contingent was smaller.

That forces at least 1 BG of artillery, and allows a reasonable 800 point army including 2 BGs of Polish hussars.

e.g.

4 TC

1 x 4 Austrian cuirassiers Determined Horse, Armoured, Average, Carbine, Melee Pistol
2 x 6 Austrian foot Superior 1 pike, 5 shot
2 x 6 Austrian foot Average 1 pike, 5 shot
1 x 2 Austrian medium artillery

1 x 4 German states horse Determined Horse, Unarmoured, Average, Carbine, Melee Pistol
1 x 6 German states foot Average 2 pike, 4 shot

2 x 4 Polish hussars Determined Horse, Armoured, Superior, Impact Mounted, Swordsmen
1 x 4 Pancerni Cavalry, Armoured, Superior, Light Lancers, Melee Pistol

The Polish was the single largest contingent and included infantry - however, there were good reasons, which I cannot recall, that I decided it was best represented as an Austrian army.

How would it look if it were the Austrian and Polish main list and optional German allies?

I'm not bothered if the list does not allow much variety as it is an army that was in existence for only a few months with only 1 major battle.

That more or less works, although you can only get 2 BGs of Hussars in 800 points by having only 3 commanders or by downgrading something to Poor.

Could always just drop the Germans from the requirement and assume they are covered by the Austrian contingent.

That sounds like the right answer.

So what we probably need is at least 1/3 of points from each of the Polish and Austrian lists.

Would it not be sufficient to say that the minima of each list must apply, and up to 2/3 of the points from each list?
