Spanish Colonial list - Peru and South America

Post by rbodleyscott »

I presume that this list is also supposed to cover South America.

If so

1) What date should it start there? The Viceroyalty of Peru was created in 1542. Spanish forces were tiny (with massive Inca allies) during Manca Inca's revolt. How soon did their numbers increase? i.e. At what point does the Inca list become unsuitable?

2) Viceroyalty of Peru will require an entirely different set of native auxiliaries labelled "Only Viceroyalty of Peru" . The existing ones will become "Only Viceroyalty of New Spain".

Need to add something along the following lines to the blurb (note this is lifted straight from wikipedia and will need to be reworded):

"The territories that the Viceroyalty of New Spain ruled included present-day California (Las Californias), Nueva Extremadura (including the present-day states of Coahuila and Texas), Santa Fe de Nuevo México (including parts of Texas and New Mexico), Mexico, Central America (except Panama), La Florida, and the Caribbean. Jurisdiction also extended to the Spanish East Indies."

"Created in 1542, the Viceroyalty of Peru (in Spanish, Virreinato del Perú) was a Spanish colonial administrative district that originally contained most of Spanish-ruled South America, governed from the capital of Lima. The Viceroyalty of Peru was one of the two Spanish Viceroyalties in America from the sixteenth to the seventeenth centuries."

The creation of Viceroyalties of New Granada and Rio de la Plata (at the expense of Peru's territory) did not occur until the 18th century.
