Turn 64 - February 12, 1943
Much to my surprise Italians managed to sink 6 step BB with their subs and airstrikes.
Local counterattacks in the East picked couple of Soviet corps, including battered one near Rzhev.
Soviets continue their offensive, gap was made in German defensive lines near Pskov.
Still all quiet in the south, where Soviets now take defensive positions right on eastern bank of Donets.
It was noted, that while center is held by elite German armour formations, Rostov area is full of weak Romanian units.
We are going to exploit it in the next summer campaign, if there will be a chance.
Transports sent to Sardinia in the Med, landings in Sicily are planned soon too.

Soviet winter offensive comes to its end. Germans retreated a bit in the north and killed another corps in the center, no offensive actions were made in Allied turn.
Landings in Sardinia commensed. That was probably because of Italian airstrike, harassing US motorized transport, Cagliari held at 1 step.
Allied units are upgraded and ready to embark for Sicily any moment.

Why launch the Soviet winter offense in the north ? to many rivers and all that forest up there.
Why not the clear open terrain south of Orel ? You would have a three hex attack on the SS Mech in Kursk, or I would of liked a two hex attack on a German armour unit on the front line in the clear?

Germans looked weaker in the north, so attacks were made there. Odds for attacking SS mech unit in Kursk were really bad. And all that armour in the center - they would counterattack and kill my own damaged units.Carlos_Danger wrote:Why launch the Soviet winter offense in the north ? to many rivers and all that forest up there.

Soviets still accumulate PPs and tech upgrades for big offensive action, I did not want to trade lots of units yet.

Only Axis offensive action was in Norway, where Oslo is slowly being encircled.
In Allied turn Cagliari was taken and invasion fleet arrived to Sicily.
Norwegian units brought back to full strength, while Germany being bombed strategically.
Nothing in the East.

Muddy weather eastern zone, so Axis can't operate effectively in Norway and nothing happens in Russia.
In Sicily our transports were harassed by Italian air units and last remaining BB was sent to oppose landings.
Still, Allies managed to land and secured solid beachhead. More transports sent to mainland Italy, it looks like all Italians are busy defending Sicily and no sign of Germans in this front.

Turn 68 - May 3, 1943
Germans started to attack in the East, retaking Rzhev and reducing Soviet Guard ARM to 1 step.
Counterattacks in Sicily halved Free French armoured.
No offensive action from the Allies in the East - just retreated battered ARM unit and did some defensive preparations. Canadian motorized sent to reinforce Bergen defenders, as Oslo can fall any moment now.
Further progress in the Med:

Mostly quiet in the East, only intense air combat. Our 1 step armoured was finished off by airstrike.
Germans spotted in Italy, but thats only 1 mech unit and fighter for now. In Sicily Palermo is about to fall.

Germans are deffinetely sending more troops to Italy. Another corps was spotted and mech already participated in first counterattack, damaging US motorized unit.
In the East Germans attacked Guard mech, holding bridgehead near Kaluga, but unit held at 2 steps.
Good news are that Italy is about to surrender with Palermo taken and Messina holding at 2 steps. More transports sent to mainland Italy and Axis units there were bombed.

Our transports in Italy got bombed rather badly. One reduced to 4 steps now have to retreat for repairs.
In Norway Germans got good initial progress at Bergen.
During Allied turn Messina was taken, meaning Italy surrender. British armoured secured Taranto aswell, now we have solid force in mainland Italy. Lets see what troops Axis going to rally to defend there now, when Italians are gone.

Turn 72 - July 22, 1943
Axis killed 8 step Free French infantry in Italy, relying on their TAC units, which probably did most damage.
Bergen defenders sustained serious damage this time, place can fall any moment.
British armoured tried to rapidly break through Gustav Line, killing low morale 7 step infantry without entrenchment, but unit held at 1 step.
Basically nothing happens in the Eastern front and thats good for our purposes. Soviets going to accumulate large force by late 1943, if nothing changes.

Turn 73 - August 11, 1943
This time British armoured was killed in Italy. We should do something with Luftwaffe there, if we want to advance further north, they just wreck our units.
Allies in their turn killed Bulgarian corps and regrouped in Italy. We still have plenty of troops in this front, just need to reorganize them. And we are going to start operations in other fronts, so Germans will have to relocate their planes elsewhere.
About other fronts, we are going to land in France in Autumn 1943. Note how empty the place is! Just a dozen of garrisons, not a single corps. US paratroopers already landed in previously held by partisans Rennes, securing the city.
Both Allied units were evacuated from Norway and now you can see both garrison and motorized in Scotland.
Red Army started offensive action in Rostov area, targeting two Romanian corps units. Both held though, maybe we get better luck next turn.

Turn 74 - August 31, 1943
Axis counterattacks in Italy continues, this time US motorised was killed. My bad placing unit with low morale adjacent to German corps, shall not to it again.
And Allied landing in France begins.
Coastal waters were swept by DDs and first wave of transports arrived to Normandy and Brittany. Another airborne division dropped to support the operation.
Soviets succesfully crossed Don this time, killing two Romanian units.
In Italy Allies no longer risk to close in to German forts. If they want to kill our units, they should leave their fortifications, which will lead to German units getting destroyed aswell.

Turn 75 - September 20, 1943
Axis counterattacked bridgehead near Rostov, killing corps and reducing mech to 1 step.
Soviets in return restored positions, killing German corps there. Bad weather is possible next turn meaning it will be harder for Axis to counterattack. Basically we hope to hold this bridgehead into winter to secure Rostov during winter offensive.
Fighting continue in France, both Brest and Cherbourgh held, but the latter is about to fall. SS mech was spotted near Orleans, no sign of other German reserves.
More transports sent to the shores in hope for continued fair weather.

Turn 76 - October 10, 1943
Axis continue to contest our bridgehead near Rostov.
We restored it again.
It looks like strong German units are concentrated only in the center, flanks are rather weak. They will probably retreat during winter, or risk being crushed.
In France Cherbourgh was taken. No good weather this turn, so our transports wait for chance to land. Siege of Brest progresses slowly.
All quiet in Italy now.

Turn 77 - October 30, 1943
Axis positions around Rostov start to crumble:
Still no good weather in France, transports still await. Atleast we have Cherbourgh to unload one unit per turn.
Allies started new offensive in Italy, corps in Naples was halved. It will be hard to advance anywhere in this front, but atleast it can prevent German units relocation to other scenarios.

Re: GS 4.00 beta Plaid vs Vokt (Allied AAR)
Turn 78 - November 19, 1943
Late fair weather finally rolled, allowing Allies to land more forces in France and achieve significant progress.
In Italy it looks like Luftwaffe left and Germans are not so dangerous anymore. No counterattacks occured and Naples was taken during Allied turn.
In Russia Rostov and Voroshilovgrad were isolated, southernmost part of Axis frontline basically stopped to exist.

Turn 79 - December 9, 1943
In the East Germans started general retreat. Red Army follows, attacking where possible.
Little action in France and in Italy - Allies repair their units and prepare for next campaign.
Increasing concentration of German heavy units spotted in France, but I am not sure what they are up to. Might be even counterattack, but Allied beachhead is way too big to be dealt with already.

Turn 81 - January 18, 1944
German counterattack occured near Dnepropetrovsk, removing Soviet bridgehead across Dnepr.
Soviets killed German motorised there, but decided not to occupie hex itself - unit there will be very likely to be destroyed again.
In France Brest if finally at Allied hands, while forward troops already stand near Paris. Waiting for fair weather to resume offensive actions in France and Italy, Allied forces rest and receive upgrades.
