BattlevonWar (Axis) vs Vokt (Allies)

Post by Vokt »

Turn 84. March 18, 1944.

Eastern front Axis turn. SS units killed forwarded Soviet Guards corps in Poland. In the rest, kind of retreats and repairing of units. Kriegsmarine finally withdrew from Finland:

Image

Soviet turn. In northern sector, Red Army destroyed a german corps south of Kaunas and heavily damaged another one NW of that city. Furthermore, a Finnish corps was attacked by a Soviet armoured, forcing it to retreat. Soviet armoured units are getting good odds like 8:1 against axis infantry units. In southern sector, a German inf corps sustained massive loss when attacked by 3 Red Army units. 2 hexes SE, a German mech was killed and thus expanding bridgehead over Southern Bug river.

Northern sector image:
Image

Southern sector image:
Image

Spain Axis turn. Axis completely retreated from Ebro river line and now all units are around Pyrenees mountains. La Coruna and Valencia were abandoned. Intense antipartisan activity in southern France:

Image

Spain allied turn. Bilbao held the attack of Allies which were more successful when killing Italian mech north of Zaragoza. Australians entered emptied Valencia. Partisan near Madrid was killed:

Image

Sicily Axis turn. Italian subs are causing some trouble to Allied fleet in the Med and this turn they attacked American BB. All Axis units in the island were repaired:

Image

Sicily Allies turn. Bombings over German mech in Palermo were followed by the attack of US corps recently landed (Devers HQ). Axis unit held at low strength. Italian mech in central Sicily was finally destroyed. More Allied units landings.

Western Europe. It was fair weather in central this turn so British transported units in landed in Belgium whilst American units approached to Normandy and Britanny coasts. Heavy bombing on Rennes previous to the US landings halved Romanian unit guarding the city:

Finally, a shot of current casualties screen:

I would first of all, like to thank my opponent for the lovely and detailed AAR. The game is far from over but pretty much the Strategic Implications are fully revealed. 4 Fronts pulling the core of the Axis Powers apart. I have done my best after a rather poor 1939-1941 to build a strong tech base and powerful ground force but my Air Power and Navy has really hurt me. Plus the fact that my opponent is not making as many errors as I am. That is really what this will cut down into after a few more turns as I see just how powerful and capable the Allies are on the Western Front as I do not feel the Russians alone can run away with the game but anything is possible with the tactical genius from one opponent to the next.

I am looking forward to preventing him from sacking my Capitols and perhaps maintain healthy borders to give off the appearance that a diplomatic solution could be sought though in a faery tale but in game terms, possible. I would say I am at a 40-60 to win a partial victory...

Turn 85. April 7, 1944.

Eastern front Axis turn. Wehrmacht abandoned Kaunas and another Soviet Guards infantry unit was killed by SS panzerkorps unit that suffered rather high losses during the attack. Furthermore, Luftwaffe, took advantage of different weather zones and attacked VVS fighter air bases. Also, partisan in Lublin was killed:

Image

Northern sector shot:
Image

Southern sector shot:
Image

Spain. Allies took Bilbao and left in very bad shape and unsupplied a nearby garrison unit. Allied air attacks were opposed by Luftwaffe fighter forces in southern France that suffered rather badly:

Image

Sicily. German mech in Palermo further weakened. Italian garrison killed.

Western Europe Axis turn. Allies spotted no German corps in France so it will be Axis minors and Italian units that will fight the landings. Italian corps along with Hungarian corps counterattacked British mech in Ghent, causing high loss on Allied unit. Luftwaffe was active and bombed 2 US transports. Considerable reinforcements sent to Rennes and Nantes:

Image

Western Europe Allies turn. Americans got ashore and brought more landing units. One of the US landed units linked with O'Connors mech in Calais surrounding the city. In Belgium, British counterattacked the Italians killing inf corps whilst more British units landed. Allied air forces severely bombed units in Rennes-Nantes:

maybe a good strategy for battle von war is retreat his forces from spain and stablish a defence line in germany-belgium-holland. if you can stop the western allieds for the winter 1944-45 maybe can win the game.. i see the russians does not have the strength to take berlin. ( escuse my english )

Turn 86. April 27, 1944.

Eastern front. In Axis turn, Wehrmacht retreated to Eastern Prussia in the north whilst it's sort of of holding in Southern Bug river. In Allies turn, Red Army advanced a little in Lithuania and made no progress in the south.

Western Europe Axis turn. Italy and Axis minors forces are launching counterattacks here and there with no air support and with little regard of losses. This way, Romanian corps from Liege unsuccessfully launched a counterattack vs the British in Belgium and Bulgarian corps in Liege wasn't lucky either when attacking O'Connor unit. Italians in Rennes attacked the Americans with similar outcome. But in Normandy, Romanians got to kill a weakened US corps, in the first Axis success to fight the landings:

Image

Western Europe Allies turn. Allied fared well this turn killing Hungarian corps in Ghent and 2 Romanian corps near Brussells. Lille was taken whilst Cherboug got isolated from main supply. Italian units near Rennes suffered badly:

Image

Spain. Allies entered France from the south and launched some airborne operations mainly targeting Luftwaffe air units. A depleted German fighter ended destroyed as a consequence:

Image

Sicily. In Axis turn, Italian subs remained very active even attacking DD's. In Allies turn, retaliation attacks on the Italian subs much weakened them. Palermo held vs Allied attack once more:

Image
Image

Soviet turn. Red Army entered Eastern Prussia thus activating German extra garrisons. Many upgrades and repairs were made. In the south, Red Army advanced through emptied territory left by retreating Axis units:

Image
Image

Western Europe axis turn. Axis units mostly made retreating moves and the few attacks made were rather weak:

Image

Western Europe Allies turn. British made mostly repairs of units and brought more units to land. British paratrooper was dropped to attack battered Italian corps, Allied unit taking the city. US mech took Rennes and 1 of the 2 German garrisons in Cherbourg got killed. In Normandy, Romanians are mostly done:

Image

Spain-Southern France Axis turn. A US paratrooper unit was destroyed after an Axis counterattack. In another counterattack, US leading mech unit got halved:

Image

Spain-Southern France Allies turn. Near Toulouse, Allied air forces astonishingly killed Italian armoured due to 2 strikes. In the Pyrenees, German corps got killed. Italian garrison close to Bourdeaux was killed Americans reaching Garonne river. Simonds mech in Barcelona finally linked with the rest of Allied forces in Spain:

Northern sector image:
Image

Southern sector image:
Image

Western Europe Axis turn. Axis made no more counterattacks to landing forces in northern France and Belgium. Instead, defensive preparations are on the go along Albert Canal. In southern France, there was much more activity. Blakovitz's inf corps counterattacked US mech near Bourdeaux killing it:

Image

Western Europe Allies turn. Cherbourg held a really heavy Allied attack. Anyway, it's expected to fall on next turn due to current supply level 1 in the city. Axis units guarding Brussells and Paris were attacked by air units with not much efficacy. At land, Allied foreces linked north of Paris and in Orleans. In southern France, a Luftwaffe tac was destroyed in Limoges by a US fighter with the cooperation of a partisan unit. Allied units in the advanced to the Pyrenees, so almost all Spanish territory is conquered.

Airborne operation launched in support of the offensive in Holland in which Arhem was taken. Further attacks depleted a nearby garrison. In southern France, Dietrich unit was destroyed:

In Sicily, after a long campaing Allies have good chances now of kicking Italy out of the war. After an Italian corps in Sicily was evacuated to Reggio this turn, the now isolated Italian mech unit in Messina is not supposed to hold for long. Couple of turns ago, a landing made in Calabria peninsula cut Messina from main supply. City is being heavily bombed to lower its supply level:

The Axis are defending well in Italy and Russia, but seems to get overrun in France. It looks like the western Allies are the ones getting the honor to capture Berlin.

It's not easy defending as the Axis. You need to balance all 3 fronts so they collapse at the same time and not one before the other.

I have for a while assumed that Berlin was the cntral defence point as opposed to Hamburg.

I have also assumed we will see a counter attack of some force once the allies cross the Weiser

This player has really utilized his resources well. The Strategic Bombing has depleted me, I would say about 20% of PPs after a certain point.(if that is almost an Army Corp per turn by beginning '44 on, that is an entire Army for defense, which I planned on buying) Also the Spanish Feint, really caught me off or I may have just ignored Spain. Early in the game I put extra chits in Subs and Armor but that was a mistake. Fighters were put 2nd Priority

He has not won yet either

Turn 94. October 4, 1944.

Eastern front axis turn. Strong Wehrmacht forces now deployed in Hungary are causing trouble to Soviets. 2 Red Army units (a corps and a mech) were killed in Hungary in Axis turn:

Image

Eastern front Soviet turn. It was fair weather in central Europe this turn. This allowed to spot retreating panzerkorps at 1 step in Prague and to kill it. A Ostwall fortress hex was taken by the Soviets this killing halved German corps guarding it. Luftwaffe took high losses this turn at the hand of the Soviets losing 1 fighter and the tac in Prague. Airborne operations targeting Luftwaffe units continued. These even allowed to take control Prague by 2 Soviet paratrooper units. Not only Luftwaffe suffered this turn but also Finnish air forces that ceased to exist this turn after fighter unit was destroyed. In Czechoslovakia, Kosice was taken by the Soviets, thus killing Dietrich unit there. In Romania, Cernauti was finally seized and depleted nearby German corps was killed:

Germany-Hungary shot:
Image

Romanian front shot:
Image

Western front axis turn. German counterattack SW of Sttutgart killed British inf corps. Bremen garrison was repaired and German sub torpedoed again in Cherbourg port:

Image

Western front allies turn. Americans entered Bremen this turn, Weiser river reached in several spots. Essen and Ruhr resource were taken either. Western Allies are also targeting Luftwaffe units with paratroopers and this turn they succeeded in killing a German fighter in Stuttgart and to round up, they took mentioned city. In Sigfried Line a fort was breached:

Image

Sicily. Messina fell this meaning Italian surrender:

Italy has surrendered and this means a boost on Germany production this meaning possibility of producing more units. Germany is still able to form a defensive line from Cologne-Frankfurt-Hannover in the west taking advantage of forest hexes and rivers there. In the East, I think situation is worse for the Axis.
