Turn 35. July 12, 1941

Post by leridano »

Turn 35. July 12, 1941. Sweden was invaded!!

Still no Barbarossa. Instead of this, Sweden was invaded from sea supported by an incredible tactical air force of 6 german units. Swedish inf corps in Stockholm was reduced to 1 step so probably this country will surrender to Germany in the next turn.

Nothing the swedish can do to avoid the german taking their capital in the next turn. Only minor counterattacks to german panzers without almost effect. A little bit more lucky was the swedish fleet that reduced 4 steps on german DD.

Barbarossa, if launched, won´t be a strong nor an early one. Seemingly the next step in Schnurri strategy would be to take Norway so all Scandinavian countries will be axis controlled. Then, we would probably aim for a may 1942 USSR entry at war. In such situation, British High Command has decided to reinforce northern cities of UK.

    Turn 36. August 1, 1941

    Turn 36. August 1, 1941.

Sweden surrenders to Germany as expected. Still no DOW in Norway but it is more than likely that this country will be also invaded by the germans.

Back to Western Front. This turn Luftwaffe started an air superiority offensive over RAF air bases in England. As a consequence of these attacks No. 11 Group stationed 1 hex south of London was reduced to 6 steps. Furthermore, blitz over London was resumed. RAF Fighter Command ordered to counterattack. Thus, Luftwaffe air bases in France were attacked by british fighters. IV Fliegerkorps fighter unit in Belgium was reduced to 5 steps. RAF bombers from No. 2 Group also intervened bombing Lorraine but they took 2 steps lost without causing any damage. So results from this operation were rather poor since RAF lost 12 air steps whilst Luftwaffe lost 8 air steps. No. 11 Group withdrew to air bases NW of London.

Air war in Western front continued this turn. London was reduced to 4 PP´s and attacks over RAF air bases continued. This time it was stalemate since both sides lost 3 air steps. Anyway, RAF Fighter Command ordered a withdrawal. UK is now alone in the war so high losses must be avoided. Luftwaffe has brought 3 fighter wings to France so no way to gain air superiority in the west for the moment.

Turn 38. September 10, 1941. Norway surrenders to Germany.

Norway was DOWed and surrendered to Germany in the same turn. Now all Scandinavia is in axis hands. Consequences of this are that the brits will have to keep an eye in North Sea and to reinforce a little Scotland. Although a 1942 Sea lion is very unlikely who knows.

Barbarossa will not be launched in 1941, this is almost for sure. And, if launched, the germans would not go much further. This will mean a strong Red Army.

Turn 42. November 29, 1941. USA joins the allies.

Turns go quickly since almost nothing happens. The only thing to mention would be that USA has entered the war against Germany at the end of allies turn.

On the other hand, USSR is activated for war and the siberian reserves have been released once Stalin was informed that the japanese would not attack in Far East territories.

Turn 49. April 18, 1942. USSR joins the allies.

Many turns have passed (7) since the last post but nothing really happened during this time.

USA was busy building and deploying its forces. Also lab activity was high. I will post soon about current tech level of UK, USA and USSR.

RN was really reinforced during this time: 3 DD´s, 2 BB´s and 2 subs were built. To this we would have to add the extra Lend and Lease DD in Canada. RAF forces also were increased to 6 fighter units (3 in UK and 3 Med), 3 strat bombers and 1 tactical bomber.

Regarding USSR, plans are to build a huge army that will consist of 75-80 inf corps, 15-20 mech corps and 8-10 armours. VVS forces will be formed by 12-14 fighter units, 10-12 tactical bombers and 3-4 strategic bombers. STAVKA have planned an overwhelming soviet summer offensive in Romania. Red army forces will be ready for that in july 1942: all siberian reserves with a wide air support will participate in this operation.

Finally, MTO will see soon activity. British and Commonwealth forces in Egypt will start soon an offensive in Lybia once the new upgrades and reinforcements have arrived.

This is how Europe looks now:

To mention that german convoy campaign is being really effective. Anyway, allied ASW levels are getting high and soon those attack will get retaliation.

Turn 50. May 8, 1942. Germany invades USSR!

Wehrmacht crossed USSR borders near Leningrad seizing this city and Tallin was occupied after an amphibious operation. This resulted in all Baltic russian fleet destroyed. Never saw before this 1 turn conquest of Leningrad but seeing that huge air force of 7 german tactical bomber units stationed in Finland air bases, I see that this can be possible. Those tacs surely will have provide air support for both operations in Leningrad and Talllin.
              • Image
In the rest of USSR it was a typical 1942 german invasion in which no effectiveness penalty results in higher german losses and in a slower advance than in a normal Barbarossa. Kaunas and Brest-Litovsk were captured.
              • Image
Germans have deployed 6 fighter units in Eastern front. This made think the allies that it shouldn´t be a strong air fighter force defending Germany. This proved wrong since both british and american bombers got disasterous losses (12 air steps) compared with the damage inflicted in PP´s and with the losses suffered by german interceptors (3 steps lost). No more bombing operation over Germany will be made until the bombers can be properly escorted.

8th Army is on the move.

                Turn 51. May 28, 1942

Germans progressed faster this turn seizing Minsk in Belarus and Novgorod in northern Russia.

STAVKA, obviously, has modified its initial plans. Anyway, the weaker south flank of Axis forces in the East will continue to be the main objective whilst holding if possible in the center. USSR has got recently artillery level 2 (+1 ground attack for inf corps units) which will be really helpful. Objective is also to avoid high air losses in VVS. USSR income is 153 PP´s no matter the loss of Leningrad.

                  Turn 52. June 17, 1942

Wehrmacht reached Dnepr river line. It is in this sector where the most powerful german units have been deployed. Furthermore, Luftwaffe probably is rebasing little by little its overwhelming tactical force from Finland so the aircrafts will be soon in central Russia ready for further operations in USSR. As you can see in the pictures below, Schnurri has built 2 SS Panzerkorps units and he has deployed a total of 7 armoured units in the East which is a nice number.
                  • Image
                  • Image
Red Army is becoming more and more powerful. Recruitment policy is being a complete success and soviet corps units deployed in these initial turns will mean that the germans will be soon widely outnumbered. Key will be how far Schnurri will go with his army.

Back to Western Front, RAF caused significant losses this turn to Luftwaffe compensating a little the recent disasterous losses in bombers. Luftwaffe lost 11 air steps whilst RAF fighters took 7.

MTO. 8th Army arrived to vicinities of Tobruk and spotted a german paratroop dvision in the city-fortress. Probably the best thing to do will be not to attack it directly. So british and Commonwealth forces will be "clearing" the zone from italian units without atttacking the german unit.

                    Turn 53. July 7, 1942

No screenshots this turn. It seems lilke Schnurri won´t go much further with the germans in Russia. He probably will make a stop at the Dnepr river line in Belarus. Not sure what he will do in southern Russia where his forces are far weaker than in the center and in the north.

A british BB was attacked by 3 italian subs. I took a look at the forces window and saw 9 (!) italian submarines. So the italian have now more submarine units than the germans that have 6 units. This seems to be not much historical but this is only a game.

Germans definitely have stopped at Dnepr river. Kiev, Gomel and Vitebesk were already seized and Odessa will do in the next turn. Red Army has almost finished its building. A huge infantry army of +70 inf corps is ready and upgraded.

British 8th army will start its attack against italian positions near Tobruk in the next turn.
