Re: Army List and Label Generator - for Download - Version 1
Hi John,
it works very well with excel 2010, just built my French Army 1813 for the battle of Kulm on it, the labels are very cool;
thanks a lot for all the work you've done on it;
Best regards

Re: Army List and Label Generator - for Download - Version 1
My pleasure - great little program! I'm just in the process of putting together a French Guard list for my next game, and thought I had a unit too many.Chasseur wrote: Fixed up the points value for Guard units (thanks for finding that, Brett).
Problem fixed now - however it looks to have caused a follow-on glich with Guard artillery, which are coming up as an additonal 16/24 points for small/large guards rather than an additonal 8/12. ...
Also, if it's an easy thing to do, maybe Poland, Saxony and the Netherlands could also get their own colour and little flag?
Cheers
Brett

Great work with the list generator!
I would find it useful to list not just the ACV, but also the adjusted ACV when defending with a +2 modifier, eg
ACV: 34 ACV +2
10% 3.4 3.6
20% 6.8 7.2
30% 10.2 10.8
40% 13.6 14.4
50% 17 18
cheers,
Philip

Hi John
Great work but could you add Saxony in the drop-down for nations please. My lads are feeling left out.

Re: Army List and Label Generator - for Download - Version 1
Great work thanks for the second version and thanks to Blathergut I managed to clear all those extra points in those fields. Todays army was very short on what it should have had due to not noticing that 2 generals in blank divisions at 30 points each and accidentally making Grenadiers superior cost me over 60 points of troops I should have had on table....
One thing I had noticed and am still noticing is that the initiative stays at 1 regardless of nation or type of commander you choose. Austrians should have a +1 for nationality and I had chosen and exceptional corps commander but initiative still shows 1.
Thank you for your hard work and effort really makes putting these armies together a lot easier than doing it all manually.

Hi,
I will blank this out in the default Army worksheet to save confusion.
Cheers,
John Shaw
As it mentions on the instruction page (but who ever likes reading instructions ) the initiative is a free form field. That means you have to fill it in yourself. When the army list books come out there will be lots of different armies from the same country, but their initiative may be different for some years. Hence it is not possible to automate this bit - particularly as the books are not available yet. Certainly looking forward to seeing them.Initiative: Free form. Usually you type in the army initiative which can be found in the FOGN army lists. This value is used in the determination of who will be the attacker and who will be the defender.
I will blank this out in the default Army worksheet to save confusion.
Cheers,
John Shaw

Re: Army List and Label Generator - for Download - Version 1
Another request for the generator - could we have cavalry which are half lancer and half non-lancer. I don't think there are any in the current lists, but sure to be some in the final lists or in historical scenarios.
Thanks for all your work on this

Re: Army List and Label Generator - for Download - Version 1
Hi,
I have just uploaded version 1.03. Link is the same as in the first message in this subject.
Brett, I have corrected the Guard calculations properly this time for all units. Thanks for checking. (So much for trying to do programming quickly after midnight last night).
I have also:
- Added flags for Netherlands, Poland (Duchy of Warsaw flag) and Saxony.
- Blanked out sample Initiative value of 1 in "Blank Army" worksheet to save confusion, as this value needs to be manually entered.
- Changed ACV formula so Fieldworks do not count towards ACV total (I assume this is right Terry? Let me know if it is not).
- Added the ACV values in brackets for when defender gets the +2 ACV if attacker has gained the +40 points for units.
Sorry to keep uploading versions so quickly, but I want to get rid of the errors (and add the useful features you suggest) before too many people have downloaded the file. Thanks to all those that have provided feedback.
Cheers,
John Shaw

Re: Army List and Label Generator - Download - Version 1.03
Splendid work John.
Just one little change that would be useful. It appears (I think) that the % ACV cells round up to the next whole number. However because there are 1/2 point ACV losses (spent cavalry) we often have to deal with .5's.
ie 40% losses on the French 1813 list of 33 ACV is 13.2. The program rounds this up to 14, however (assuming that the opponent had taken under 20% losses) this French force would break at 13.5, not 14.
Maybe it would be better to have the % round up to the next 0.5 (rather than whole number), or if this is too tricky, have the % round to 1 decimal place rather than a whole number?
Cheers
Brett

Hi Philip,
I can certainly add for part units, but it would be best to add all possible part units in one go.
Terry and Mike, what part units are going to be needed in the Army List generator?
Cheers,
John Shaw

Re: Army List and Label Generator - Download - Version 1.04
Hi Brett,
I have created version 1.04 which changes the calculated ACV values to the nearest 0.5 points.
Thanks for "pointing" that out.
As usual it can be loaded from the hyperlink in the first post within this topic (go to top of page 1).
Cheers,
John Shaw

Thanks for the update(s). This should be stickied to the top of the list.

Hi
I try army list with open office, but I don't have a lot of functions.
Is possible that you can make a version for Open Office?
Thanks for your job.
Giorgio

Re: Army List and Label Generator - Download - Version 1.04
Hi JDM,
I have been off forum for a couple of weeks, madly rebasing troops and doing terrain for a Waterloo game that was held a Little Wars Melbourne last Sunday. I am working on the part unit selection so will have another version soon. I did send you the latest copy by email (back on April 21st). Currently 1.04 is the latest version, but that will be updated by next week to version 1.05 with selection of mixed Cavalry units.
Cheers,
John Shaw

Just a thought.
One thing (2003 version, maybe in the 2010 as well) is the preset print format which is portrait rather than landscape. I find setting it to landscape, reducing top and bottom margins, and only including the top 2 lines of notes yields a printout with nicely bigger text and better use of the page, and still accommodating 4 divisions and over 20 units.

Hi Mike,
Thanks. I'll look at this as default in next version. This will be soon. I am just finishing off easier way to choose part units (e.g. mixed cavalry types).
Cheers,
John Shaw
