I hope that at least some of the participants decide to record their battles so people like me, the new ones, can enjoy watching some multiplayer gaming after work.

Just jump in. It's exactly the same as single player, only more fun. And probably more challenging. But, it's simple and very much a blast.

There are still 11 slots open. Come join the fray!

I'm still new to this game and haven't read the manual nor played the tutorial yet. All I've done so far is to watch a few YouTube videos by Das Tactic, or das123 as he calls himself on the forum.

Running through the tutorials is not a bad idea. They are good fun and show off a few of the army choices FoG2 offers. I would say the best approach is to play and refer to the manual as questions come up.

If you don't want the commitment of a tournament's round based schedule you can always ask for a casual game or pick up a MP challenge whenever you feel ready to tackle it. One thing that is nice about the tournaments is that you get to play a pair of challenges concurrently. Playing one battle as one army and the other battle with the armies switched. This is great for learning how the different army lists in FoG2 interact with each other.

I would say that the FoG2 community is mostly a friendly bunch. :)

How many days per round is really tricky and TBH I'm not sure what the 'sweet spot' is for most players
7 days does seem to be too short. I don't think we have tried 12, worth a thought perhaps.
Would it be considerably easier if the turns were 14 days or does the downside of taking 2.5 months to finish a 5 round tourney outweigh this?

Time zones wouldn't work as those of us down under have a small enough player pool as it is and we can play each other socially as we do. The purpose and the joy of the PBEM server allows us to play against like minded people anywhere in the world at any time please don't restrict us to regions as that is just flawed to the extreme.

Ten days works fine, the key is the discipline of the people to do at least one turn a day minimum

I live in Alaska & have played a very friendly fellow from Norway & Rex "from down under". I can attest to the ease, speed, & fun of the current system. In my case ( retired ) time zones are not an issue.

So battles are on 32x32 and 1200 force points right? Just my opinion, 32x32 not much fun after a few battles i see, i would prefer at least 40x32 or smth where width is bigger. (Couse tourney rule wont change because i wanted to, just wanted to mention lol)
Muso wrote:Specific tournament rules:
This tournament will involve five rounds. The battles will be medium-sized custom battles.
Round 1: Seleucid (205BC – 167BC) vs Roman (199BC – 106BC) (Mediterranean Agricultural)
Round 2: Pergamon (190BC – 129BC) vs Pontic (281BC – 111BC) (Mediterranean Hilly)
Round 3: Bosporan (84BC – 11BC) vs Dacian (50BC – 106AD) (Norh European Agricultural)
Round 4: Jewish (64BC – 6AD) vs Prolemaic (55BC – 30BC) (Middle East Hilly)
Round 5: Ancient Brits (60BC – 80AD) vs Roman (105BC – 25BC) (North European Agricultural)
Games are paired, so each matchup will be played both ways. Each player will be able to choose his forces using the normal force selection system. Random maps are in use, so the two battles in each pair will be on different maps.
First round pairings will be selected randomly, subsequent rounds using the Swiss Chess system. Nobody will play the same opponent in more than one round.

You don't need to worry about setting up the games Lancier. As it is an automated tournament the system does it for you. You will see one of the games on your MP page and the mirrored game (different terrain but same general type) will appear once your opponent has made their first turn.

Good luck (as long as you aren't drawn against me :-) )

Hello rexhurley

Re Time Zones, don't worry, we were not planning to restrict all tournaments to certain time zones, but were wondering whether at some point in the future (and its all tentative at the moment) whether there would be a need or demand for some tourneys to be 'regional', e.g. a 'European Tournament' or 'American Tournament'

All up for discussion

Ben Wilkins

It started!

My opponent and I are showing similar deployments... although I couldn't resist the lure of the elephants.

Just wanted to say that the tournament system automatically creating the games for each pair of players is really nice. That saves a lot of confusion and players putting in the wrong settings. Kudos to slitherine for a nice and straightforward system.

Only question I had is the rules mention if players don't complete enough rounds then the player that had it in their inbox longer will be penalized. Is there any way to tell how much time each player has had?

I am poised in anticipation for my opponent to pick up the challenges....just hope it's not a double no show.... :(

My opponent has sent me one turn of the two matches checking his form I find of nine rounds of tourneys he has played in he has timed out in four..... :|

I also thought we were going to be semi ranked to start this one out a bit more fairly yet here I find myself drawn against someone at the other end of the nominal scale, I'm fine with it but will they, time will tell I guess :?

Seeding has not been implemented by Slitherine yet.

It's a 5 round tournament. Swiss Chess will rank people for later rounds. Everyone will find their "fair" level after a couple of rounds.

It may be the FOG2DL will solve these issues.

It may be the random open tournaments for some reason attract those who don't always see the importance of completing matches even if you are losing both as a learning tool and as a courtesy.

Hi, I have a problem, I received the mail about my turn but I don't find the game in my multiplayer list of current games.

Who can help me?

Many thanks
