Field of Glory: Empires is definitely an ambitious project. Set in the Ancient World roughly from the fall of Alexander the Great’s empire,Its aim is to deliver strategic empire management carved in turn-based gameplay with a high level of historical detail.

Found out about the session too late, but still have my most important question open. By "campaign battle I mean a battle fought in the course of an Empires playthrough.

It has been disclosed that campaign battles may be downloaded to enable an Empires battle using FOG2 in Empires between the player and AI.

Can such a battle be downloaded to enable a enable a FOG2 battle to be between the player and another human player - head to head, so to speak.

I am hoping that is so both as to two humans in MP together or with a third person engaged to fight the battle.

How shall this go?

This has been answered in other threads by the developers.

Though they are not totally discounting it for the future at present only Player v AI campaigns will allow export of battles to the FoG2 battle system.

They argue (understandably in my opinion) that the delays in fighting out such battles would make the 500 turn Campaign in Empires unplayable in a multiplayer context.

Well, I was working when you guys were doing the Reddit chat. Despite I read the answers, I still do not understand, it will be necessary to buy Field of Glory 2 to play Field of Glory: Empires ?

It is absolutely NOT necessary to buy Field of Glory 2 to play Empires which is a totally stand alone game.

(Field of Glory 2 is a superb battle game system though so you would probably love it !)

The only reason you may want to buy it to use Empires is if you wanted to play out some battles in the Empires system on the Field of Glory tactical maps (single player only).

Hope that helps

1 - no release date has been announced yet.
2 - we actually thought of the integration after the fact, and were very happy that it was possible to design a system which allowed the games to work so well together. But the Empires design stands on its own. The team can expand.
3 - one for the team.
4 - no DLC plans have been announced yet.

I imagine, I didn't bought yet because I will move to Russia :) (And it is cheaper there, so I can buy all DLC and the vanilla haha)

If you mean this question?
Three, I was informed on the Slitherine forums that, quote,

We wanted to have Judea gameplay being one of a nation in exile and in rebellion against Jerusalem occupier, Antigonos. If you play Judea, the goal will be to trigger some special events and muster your forces progressively so you can storm Jerusalem from the hands of the big power holding it, Antigonos, or Seleukos, depending of how the war goes between these two. Then you'll need to survive in this position, but you'll have some unique benefits for that...
I think you may be over-interpreting a statement. All nations have some pressures to grab certain regions, its just that is much more the case for Judea. All can say now is it is probably the most unique faction in the game.

The game don't allow 2 nations to share ownership of a region, although you can have 2 enemy factions in the same region if there is a siege.

So because of that, if we wanted to have some kind of Judea gameplay where the goal was the liberation of Jerusalem after some time (and not at the historical time forcefully), then we had to create a Judea-in-exile government and power base in an adjacent region.
This is obviously not strictly historical. Jews went along rather well with their Greek-flavored occupiers for quite some time. But then as you know, because of some misruling of Antiochius IV a revolt happened in 167 BCE.

Empires is not an historical simulation, it is less historical than the former AGEOD games we did (at AGEOD obviously :D ). It has strong historical elements, and if we don't have to choose between historicity and gameplay fun, then we do both. If we have to choose, most of the time historicity takes the 2nd row. Plus there are time like for Judea where given how the game rules are done, it is simply not possible to do the perfect historical setting, with some Judea resistance cells within an occupied region.

The game is a load of fun, but you'll get the maximum from it if you don't try to double check that each and every tidbit of gameplay is 100% historical. Another example, the Celts nations can build 4 Nemetons (temple in Celtic). If you manage to build the 4 of them in a single region, then you get vast benefits, attributed to the presence of the Celtic gods. This is done in a way that it might just be the interpretation of the people of the time, that indeed the gods are in the temples. But perhaps not. We don't know. But you get a real gameplay benefit. Is it historical? Certainly not, but it gives a nice gameplay twist that is indeed Celtic-flavored!

3 cases

If you are fighting a 'regular' battle, then yes you retreat in an adjacent valid region (you need to be able entering it though, if you are surrounded by neutral land, you stay put). You can also re-embark this way.

If you are assaulting a city and lose the assault, then you stay put and the siege resume.

For independents, slaves and rebels, as soon as you make them retreat, they are removed

're trade goods.....

Love the system by the way but just wondering ....do the value of these goods change from the base value depending on supply and demand ( increasing demand for iron for example) or are the prices fixed ?

Many thanks in advance.

there is a fixed price for each but you can gain a bonus on selling depending on your trade efficiency (so you might get say 10% over the core price).

More importantly, your trade acumen can grab a sale your way. Say there are 2 regions that can supply at the same distance, if both are external to the buyer odds on higher trade acumen wins. Now there is a bias to internal (or with allied nations) trade, but its possible that trade acumen will still offset this, converting what could have been an internal trade into one where you get paid to supply.

The trade game is full of these delightful little quirks that build up, so basically Carthage will do exceptionally well as a trading nation - even if lacks any particularly specialised goods. The only problem is those crude Latin types who were so rude to poor old Dido when they fled Troy? They seem to fail to appreciate the importance of trade over conquest :)

And again, these variables move according to your national characteristics, your ruler, the decisions you take and buildings in a particular region.

Yes that makes perfect sense.

I noticed how much difference it makes in Revenue if you can source needed goods from your own territory for a building rather than having to import it ! Huge difference.

A question to the devs re the Multiplayer set up ?

Just something that occurred to me....does the originator of the MP game stipulate to the game at the beginning all the nation's involved and the players or do they just open the game with the 48 hour window for players to log into it ?

I just wondered as to what stops the game launching turn 1 automatically after the second player joins before anyone else has the chance to sign in given that turns progess as soon as the last player has made their move even if it is sooner that the deadline ?

I am just planned the logistics of the game set up.

Thanks for any response in advance

Ian
