The Bull Rises: Iberian Empire!

Post by Blathergut »

Beginnings

A city has been founded in the hills of Iberia where fertile fields offer the prospects of abundance. Surrounded by harsh mountains and even harsher neighbours, can the foundlings survive?

[I thought, with the latest patch, I'd come back to the Iberians in the Mediterranean. Setting is heroic. Let's see if it is possible. The Iberians offer some challenges: unable to cultivate, unable to build warriors at start, and they face the might of Carthage.

Goals:

a) Build a second city to help with the food concerns. The northwest seems a likely place.
b) Research weapon skills so that eventually (before Carthage arrives??) we can build warriors.]

Expansion

While managing to survive the harsh years with enough food to fill our bellies, land has been claimed to the north and east and now we claim Illercavonia as part of our lands.

Vaebriga has been established to the northwest in fertile lands. The brightest minds in the land (such as they are!!) are developing military techniques like those of our enemies and soon (hopefully) we shall be in a position better suited to resist them.

Relations

We sign a treaty of friendship with the Greeks to the northeast and then a trade deal as well. While meager (1 food from us for 1 influence from them), it's a start!

Carthage arrives, pushing it's might and attitude around. But they seem more concerned with our Greek friends (sorry but rather them than us!!). Hopefully our new military skills can be put into practice before it is too late!

Hordes at Sea

Our Lands Ravages, Our Sea Despoiled

The Carthaginian swine swarm the seas, but we finally have troops capable of meeting them in battle. Will we endure?

[Another Goal: Claim back the land Carthage took before the Greeks can 'come to our aid' and lay claim to some of it!]

Final Doom

Post by Blathergut »

We are unable to survive the Carthaginian onslaught. While we destroyed several units, more smarmy swarms kept coming.

I like the citizen loyalty: nonexistent! :(

Ah well, an interesting experiment.

Rebirth!

Post by Blathergut »

Oh the Gods are Fickle!

Seems the previous outcome was just a bad nightmare. ;)

The Carthaginians head into Massilian territory, letting us recruit a 2nd group of warriors. We keep our distance, but when a wounded Carthaginian unit (swordsmen at that!) runs south into our lands, we pounce.

Some objectives are met: building an army. [Pavel: Is there a way of seeing completed objectives?]

Now, if we can keep food supply up (birthrate has been reduced down) and add a couple training improvements...

No, once the "Objective completed" window or "Objective cancelled" window is displayed, the whole objective object with details is forgotten.

Starvation Rears Its Head

Post by Blathergut »

Our reaching the military goal granted us a 3rd warrior unit somehow but this caused even more food shortages. When the hordes finally showed, we sealed up in the capital but slowly starved. Just by the hair on the goddess's 'chin' our nomads took the Carthaginians down even as all 3 warriors died. :(

But we find a new Carthaginian city sprung nearby to steal our lone source of iron. :( :(

Our chances of hanging on now, with no real military might, seem slim. But we can crank birth rate up for a bit...but nomads vs swords is not very healthy!

More Final Doom

Post by Blathergut »

The lone Carthaginian sword sliced + diced through the nomads and capital fell. At least I got a bit further! :) The problem seems to come down to: The Carthaginians approach/encircle the city, cutting off food supply. To attempt to attack out into plains or grasslands is suicide with warriors.
