Oh make no mistake, while my efforts to subdue his army in the field met with what most would call "less than success" - I have now moved to phase 2: sending wagons of gold to his Celtiberian nobles to convince them to switch sides. sunnyboy remains in pole position in Division D with his sixth straight win, but there is a formidable pack of players pursuing him hoping for a slip up. It includes Geffalrus (Antigonids), General Shapur (Hannibal in Africa) who has now won 5 matches in a row, MorkinTheFree (Pyrrhics) and Karvon (Graeco-Bactrians).

Division D
Herode_2 - Kingdom of Soissons 461-486 AD defeats lydianed - Kappadokian 260 BC-17 AD : 46/16
The battle started late in the day, as Soissons crossed the map and moved towards the Kappadokians waiting for the attack on a good and wisely choosen defensive position. As Roman soldiers looked reluctant to attack uphill such an army, a few turns of mutual observation ensued, ended by a fierce charge of the Kappadokians. Despite their courage, gods eventually favoured Romans. Thanks to my opponent for the game, good luck & have fun for the next ones !

Hats off to harveylh and Ulysisgrunt!!
harveylh is currently sitting at the top of Division A in all four league sections. I don't think that has ever been done before.
And Ulysisgrunt has secured his third win in Classical Antiquity Division A which almost certainly ensures that he will be playing in Division A next season. This is noteworthy because Danny plays mostly in Division C across the FOG2DL, but he did very well in Classical Antiquity Division B last season (runner-up) and now he is doing very well again. For me, things like this bring out the beauty of the league format, where players can win promotion and pit themselves against the very best players.

Division B
devoncop (Spanish-Sertorius) beat Bluefin (Visigoth) 49% - 23%
The Visigoth cavalry and warbands ventured into a large forest to try and bring the skulking Spanish to battle and came to grief at the hands of the Scutarii and light javelins of multiple skirmish troops.
Thanks to Bluefin for a hard fought contest.

Re: First Time Control check is Friday 22nd February . . .
I have heard back from 6 of the 7 players now and everything is OK with them. They have matches well-advanced in the sections where they have not posted results yet. There is one player who I have not been able to contact and that is NikiforosFokas, who has entered Late Antiquity (0 results in) and Early Middle Ages (1 result in). I know that he is away until 1st March so I will contact him then. He is a regular player in the FOG2DL and I'm fairly certain everything will be OK.

Division C
edb1815 (Arab City) defeated Zardoz02 (Sassanid 477-590) 65% - 31%
Well played match cavalry everywhere - The loss of the elephants was a heavy blow for the Sassanids.

Pete,
Very much appreciated, but it won't last long as there are too many good players in Division A! I'll be happy to finish at the top of the leaderboard in one section. And thanks to Ulysisgrunt who introduced me to FOG2 digital league games. I had never played multiplayer before.

Re: Hats off to harveylh and Ulysisgrunt!!
Big respect to both players .....having been a permanent fixture in Division B across different time periods for 3 seasons I know how difficult it can be to play players of a higher Divn standard so my record of unblemished mediocrity is unlikely to change anytime soon!

With all of my matches complete, I just want to thank my opponents once again, and wish them all best of luck in rest of the league.
See you all next season.

Bah, send your wagons of gold Geff......... I look forward to the day we meet me on the field of battle again, even if it is with an army of treacherous Spaniards at your back.Geffalrus wrote: ↑Sun Feb 24, 2019 1:26 pmOh make no mistake, while my efforts to subdue his army in the field met with what most would call "less than success" - I have now moved to phase 2: sending wagons of gold to his Celtiberian nobles to convince them to switch sides. Division D
sunnyboy (Spanish 300-10 BC) beat Bluefin (Gallic 300-101 BC) 42-2
For a third time in this tournament the Spaniards opponent rolled snake eyes with the terrain die… a large stream fortuitously lying mid map sheltered the Spanish medium foot from the Gaul’s heavy hitters. As the Gallic left endeavoured to come to grips with the Spaniards they became increasingly disordered by the stream, falling prey to the numerous Spaniards lining the river bank. The Gallic horse attempted to force a crossing on their right and strike a decisive blow, however were thwarted by a combination of the Spanish horse and poor terrain. As the Gallic left disintegrated the rest of their army lost heart and withdrew from the field.
Thanks for the game Corwin!
