Re: Season 2 Tournament diary and news

Post by stockwellpete »

We did have a few problems during the course of the season, particularly at the beginning when three players either withdrew after a couple of days, or just did not start playing. Then we had a player who dropped a couple of divisions at the half-way time control stage, but still did not finish his matches. And we had one extremely slow player who was playing one or two turns a week maximum so that his matches were not completed after 6 weeks. I will not be mentioning any names but all these players will be excluded from Season 3, and they will get their second (and last) chance in Season 4 when they will be restricted to a maximum of 2 sections. There was one player who also made unsubstantiated allegations of cheating and, following discussions with Slitherine, he is now permanently excluded from the FOG2DL.

Apart from that it has been an excellent tournament for me to organise once again and I think we only had to adjudicate around 15 of the 668 scheduled matches in Season 2. :D

Army records from Season 2 of the FOG2DL

Key to table
This is very straightforward. The numbers after the army name represent wins - draws (or ties) - losses. The table takes no account of the skill levels of the players using the army, it just gives the playing record of each of the armies that have been used in the competition. Obviously the higher the numbers involved with a particular army then the more meaningful the figures become as the disparity in skill levels between the various users is evened out.

Re: Army statisics: FOG2DL Season 1

As a matter of interest the Season 2 table has

Western Huns (376-476AD) 9-6-3 (under H)

and

Western Huns (376-454AD) 12-0-18 (at the end)

Which is correct?

Thanks. They needed to be added together. (stockwellpete)

Key to table
The player's name is shown in bold type and larger font; the first part shows the player's overall record - Played - Won - Tied - Drawn - Lost; then we have the break down of which sections and divisions the player has played in, so CAe means Classical Antiquity Division E, LAc means Late Antiquity Division C and so on. TEb means Themed Event Pool B. The players record in each section expressed as W-T-D-L. Ties are shown by a *.

It would be nice to see a table with the medals won by different players (Gold, silver, etc.). I remember i have seen a table like this for the FoG1 and it was really nice.

Yes, I can do something like that although it will take quite a bit of research.

Yes, Anders does provide a table like that. I will see if he has time to do one again soon.

It would be nice to see a table with the medals won by different players (Gold, silver, etc.). I remember i have seen a table like this for the FoG1 and it was really nice.
Yes, Anders does provide a table like that. I will see if he has time to do one again soon.
I'll do it. Probably quite soon but can't promise.

Re: FOG2DL player ratings

No surprises that pantherboy has gone straight to the top of the ratings. Some things never change.

The way these ratings work is that at the end of Season 3 the data from Season 1 will drop out of the calculations so that the ratings will always reflect a player's form over the last two seasons.

My thanks once again to Anders (hidde) for doing such a great job in completing these ratings so quickly. :D

Re: Season 2 Tournament diary and news

The archive has been updated today to include all the Season 2 tables and charts. Anders (hidde) has completed the FOG2DL player ratings and the latest army and player statistics are now available. A new section called "FOG2DL records" is also available. All these threads are currently stickied. All that is left now for me to do is to update the rules of competition and Player's Guide For Season 3. I will do that when the poll closes at the weekend. Then I am going to have 3-4 weeks off before I open recruitment for Season 3. Cheers everyone. :D

What do the numbers in parenthesis mean and how do these rate to the calculated rating?

If we take the entry for yourself . . . 56-Morbio (39-141)=3.62

This means you are rated player number 56; you have played 39 matches in the last two seasons of the FOG2DL and you have achieved 141 rating points, giving you an average per game of 3.62.
