Update v1.2.73 won't even start Win7

I have (had) version 1.1.58 running, w/ Reinforcement/BrokenA/Anabasis DLCs all loaded. No problems when playing those.

I hit "Check for Updates" and it pulled down the 1.2.73 Update and successfully applied it (according to update wizard). The splash screen had the updated look & feel to it, and was pulling news/info (Sin & Sacrifice News). But when I hit "Play Game", I just get the standard Deadlock mouse cursor over a completely black screen. It's as if it's waiting to load up the game, but it never does. The cursor doesn't freeze, and i can move it around, but the game into/Load saved games screen never appears. i let it sit there for 20 minutes and it never recovered.

Killed the process, went back and downgraded to an old update (v 1.1.54) that I had saved locally, and everthing worked again. I then downloaded the Update from the website and tried to apply it manually, versus allowing the "Check For Updates" wizard to do it. Same exact behavior.

Did a complete uninstall, re-installed, then tried to apply the update, and same thing happened. I've run out of ideas.


The Output Log file is very short, and full of errors. Looks like several files aren't installed as part of the update.:

install the game as admin and run the game as admin, see if that help

plus make sure you delete the settings in the doc's folder

I too am experiencing the same problem of the screen going black and a point curser that I can still control then nothing. I tried
the suggestion of running the game as administrator and the result was the same. :cry:

Unplug the second monitor, reboot windows, run the game a dn check if the issue persists.

Sir, the problem persists after unplugging the second monitor. Additionally, to my surprise, there's another update ver. 1.2.77 that
I downloaded yet the identical problem continues where I get a black screen with a BG pointer cursor that I can freely move around.
When I reattached the 2nd monitor and restarted the PC, then restarted BG, I found that the cursor can move across to the second monitor.
The cursor does change from the BG cursor to the windows curser as it is moved across to the other monitor. FYI, BG worked fine
before update v1.2.73 on my Win 10, 64bit, i7 4.2GHz processor, 16GB Ram, GeForce GTX 1060 video card with 6 GB memory, and
dual monitors.

I'm afraid to purchase the latest DLC but maybe that will fix the problem. :roll:

Update your Nvidia drivers and make sure that you tick the box "Perform a clean installation" when installing the drivers.

I've downloaded and installed the latest nVidia Drivers checking off on performing clean instalation to no avail. Nothing has
changed trying to launch BG. Kinda looks like the update doesn't like NVidea GeForce GPU's. :cry:

ZakBlood, I've gone so far as to remove all vestiges of the GeForce card using an uninstall program. I lost the use of one monitor
and the downloaded Nvidia driver I later tried to install manually for the card could not install because it could not see the graphics card anymore.
Downloaded Nvidia's GeForce Experience software that auto checks for the latest drivers then downloaded the latest driver for Nvidia for
Series 10 cards (GeForce 1060) using clean installation, version 430.64. The PC now is back to normal but BG still fails to run. The next thing I guess is to
roll back BG to the previous version that worked fine. That also means I won't be getting the latest DLC for fear of not working. Thanks for
your help.

Zakblood, it works now! I just happened to go to the BG website when I noticed under the previous update that
the old game version had to be uninstalled before updating. You only see that at the website because when you click
on "Check for Updates" it just installs latest without deleting the previous version.

I have the exact same problem. BSG cursor on black screen.

Win 7 64 bit. 8 gb of ram. Radeon RX 580. Latest drivers.

Installed to D:\games

When will there be a patch to fix whatever was broken?

I spent all night re-downloading everything, but uninstalling and reinstalling everything works! Thanks...
