Fords...

Post by 76mm »

I've been meaning to post some thoughts about fords for awhile:
1) it seems to me like they should cause problems for units attacking from them; currently they are treated as "non-open" terrain, which means (AFAIK) that foot units suffer no penalties at all for attacking from a ford. It seems implausible that anything other than light foot (and maybe not even light foot) would be able to descend the river bank, cross the river, and ascend the bank on the far side with no reduction in their combat power...

2) Personally I also don't like that units can move diagonally out of hex squares--basically it makes the fords three squares wide rather than one.

To my mind, a ford should be a narrow place to cross a river, with some difficulty, but currently fords seem to easy to cross and too wide.
