Any adjustments during Setup for smaller games?

Post by DoEddi »

The rules call for 3ft x 5ft table being used for smaller games with 650pts to 800pts for 15mm; that is 36MUs x 60MUs.

Besides fewer Terrains could be placed on the table, opposing armies' skirmishers could deployed anywhere up to 18 MUs from their side's rear table edge. Since the table is now 36MUs wide, that means opposing Skirmishers could start touching each others. Is that correct?

Or should there be any adjustments during the Setup when playing on a smaller table?

That's a great question. We've just had a 5 game competition using 60" x 40" and we kept the deployment areas the same. This was sightly concerning when a LH BG deployed just 4MU away from my LF.

For a 36" deep table I suggest you drop skirmisher deployment to 15" but there is no established convention so it's really up to you.

Bases cannot be in frontal contact unless one BG has charged (it cannot be a side edge anyway). But Oooo! They obviously didn't think about that.

One could try having a general rule that no battle group can be laid down within x (5?) MUs of one that has already been laid down by the opposing side? The value of the idea- and of x itself - is dependent on the table width as for some widths it would be otiose. It is a construct we are experimenting with for an 18th century set for handling advance guards ( max one per army) that might be laid on the same flanking sector whereas the other formations (as in organisations) of Infantry Lines and Cavalry Wings will not encounter such a problem.
