I've only just bought the game and DLC and have run into the same issue on 3 save games in a row. If I don't use the auto-rally feature the game will continue running fine, the moment I tell it to create a defensive fleet, it freezes the game, the process in task manager reads "Suspended" the hang will last until the process is killed in task Manager (in two instances attempting to recreate the bug when it froze it actually caused a system BSOD)
System specifications:
OS: Windows 10 home 64-bit (10.0 build17134)
CPU: AMD ryzen Threadripper 1900X 8-core (16 thread) ~3.8Ghz
memory 16 GB (DXdiag output: 16384MB)
GFX: AMD radeon RX560 series 4GB VRAM (driver version 18.12.1.1)
I'm still testing to see if the bug is related to after a certain point has been reached in the tech tree, or what the actual trigger is that causes the issue, I've tried running the game in admin mode, it's the steam version, steam also running in admin mode. The game location is on an Auxiliary drive the install path
S:\Program Files\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Polaris Sector
Where the problem is repeatable, I figure it's worth posting. For now I'll continue attempting to narrow down at which point in the game it seems to occur (if it's after a certain year, certain technology, level of expansion or colonized worlds, population etc) If I can Narrow it down I'll update the post
Game freezes mid/late game anytime "add rally point" is used for defense fleets
Re: Game freezes mid/late game anytime "add rally point" is used for defense fleets
welcome to the forum, sorry about the issue, but without any logs or reports and or any error messages, it's hard to say what could be the issue, maybe a software / hardware conflict or even something else working in the background that stops or starts at a given point etc,
easier way to sort out any issues is to do a clean boot and play from a known point where it crashes at a given point so on, then load the save here and point to how many turns later and after what event, as if it can be replicated, it can be fixed, if it can't and it's random, then normally it's not game related and points to something on your end, not game related i'm sorry to say, or everyone else would mention the same point in time and space in game
a report may give more insight,
How to get a DirectX Diagnostic file:
1. click on "START"
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice
We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments rather than pasted into the body of the post.
once the report has been made, just zip the file then attach it to your post as it's a Txt file which is then not permitted to attach to the forum, where as a zip file is.

if it's not on a permanent drive, then it can be parked and cause errors, as when the game asks for information, the game hangs, as the drive has to be woken etc, this normally happens when it's an external or none permanent drive USB or any of the other connections. The game location is on an Auxiliary drive the install path

Re: Game freezes mid/late game anytime "add rally point" is used for defense fleets
The auxiliary drive is an internal drive, It's just not on the same drive as the operating system. I've attached the Dxdiag, If there are any other logs that you need do let me know, I've also attached the save in another zip. As for recreating it within the saves that it has occurred, if I hit the create rally point and tell it to create a defense fleet, it will be fine until I hit space to unpause, the moment it unpauses the game, that's when the program stops. There is no delay after hitting space it is an immediate lock up.
As for specifics, This occurs while trying to add a fleet rally to the systems Delta Vela, Suhail el-Wezn, or Gamma Grus, in this save those are the only 3 locations I've tried since the problem occurred on this save.
Edit: I also have figured out, as it just now occurred to me to check this. (I save often in different slots so when I do hit the problem I have a save that is hopefully as close to where it became broken as possible. I have a manual save that was created 2 minutes before an autosave. The save created by autosave, has the problem. If I reload the manual save from 2 minutes prior, the problem is not present. I've included the autosave with the mentioned problem.
The problem does persist after a fresh reboot of the system.

I realized that the save wouldn't upload as intended, I've hosted it on my google drive, I have linked to the folder here, that contains both the last manual save that the feature is working as well as the autosave where it no longer works on my end.

and the crash sender, which is part of the program hangs and crashes as well, so for me it's a permissions issue, with either the AV or firewall settings
installing and running the game as admin, and steam as well should setup the default permissions for the game and the error reporter built in to talk to the developer once an error is encountered, if it doesn't communicate, it hangs the system and doesn't forward the error message.
so next question is, can you check the logs of both the AV and firewall program and see if either has stopped a process from running, thanks

Re: Game freezes mid/late game anytime "add rally point" is used for defense fleets
It is looking like it was a permissions issue, After setting everything to admin, completely disabling my firewall, and adding it to the AV whitelist. Uninstalling and reinstalling it with Steam running as admin, The problem seems resolved, The saves that were broken before remain broken, However the problem has not occurred again on a new run through since. I'll be giving a more comprehensive play test later. If I manage to replicate the problem again I'll update this thread, at the moment though it's looking promising.
Re: Game freezes mid/late game anytime "add rally point" is used for defense fleets
it would appear that I have spoken too soon, after about an hour of play on a new game I ran into the same problem.
The latest game it would seem it was broken some ways back as it occurs in all 3 autosaves for the current new game. I'm at a bit of a loss, The program is set to run as admin, was installed with steam running as admin. it's been whitelisted in my AV, and the Firewall.
The only other things I could think to try is grabbing the latest GFX driver for my card. I'll do an update to the latest release and see if that makes a difference (as for the having two audio devices loaded, one is the motherboard audiocard, the other is the HDMI audio for output through the graphics card. I can try disabling the HDMI audio off of the graphics card to remove that variable as well.
