Where are the mines?

Post by stan23 »

I see mines in peoples mods, but I can't find mines in the editor.
Can someone tell me what I'm missing? Any help appreciated.

Thank you, man.
The editor is still somewhat of a mystery to the noob here :)

Hate to necro an old thread, but is there any way to assign mines to a faction instead of being "No Man's Land"?

I've cracked open a few scenarios and see that there is a way, and mines can be assigned a side.

Select the mine then change to the faction you want to be assigned.

1.Select the mines (No Man's Land faction)
2.Choose the faction (ex Germany)
3.Place the German mines (left-click)

Now, a while back I think we discussed this: If you place mines that belong to an AI faction like this, it means the AI knows where they are, correct? In turn, that also means you do not have to reveal the mines to the AI if you have a situation in which you program a faction to advance near, or through, a minefield?

Yep.
Another "feature" of faction specific mines is the units' ability to move though them. The mines behave like your units then - thus can't be used as an AI "blocking force" anymore, for example.

Thanks!

Have a scenario with enemy AI minefields, but didn't know the procedure - the result was enemy running into their "own" minefields.

And I'm pretty sure you can even back them up with an AT-unit!

I think it is always better to use Neutral mines
The trick to avoid your own units walking on your mines while blocking the path, what seems most logical, is to use Reveal Area with Reveal Hidden Units at the Scenario Start.
The Neutral mines will become to be visible by you (or the AI) during all the scenario but invisible by the AI (or by the Human player) :
