Re: Le Roi Soleil - Challenges
Had two turns with Ohf but none since 20th Feb. Hope he's out there though. I have Jacobites in a complete sea of forest against imperial... it would be a pity to shelve as I can't stop the scots frrom drawling with delight

A challenge ode to Kelen2 entitled My enemies have Swedish voices apologies to Al Stewart
I was playing Brag with Kelen2 in Bedlam
And the doctor would not deal
Asking me: "Why do the Danes kneel down there bleeding?"
I answered him "Physician,
I think his Danes have tried
I was falling back on failure
but the failure stepped aside
Cause now his enemies have Swedish voices...

Rex, should Box 4 still have games on hold for Undieripper????
Re: Le Roi Soleil - Challenges
TGM,
Rex posted the challenges for undieripper about 4 posts earlier.....just select one of them and put in password undies. He will post the reverse once he knows the armies involved. Well that's what happened with my games in box 3

Re: Le Roi Soleil - Challenges
My apologies to all for my starting games and then dropping out of sight.
I haven't been AWOL, I've been on Sick Call. You know that feeling when you're so sick it feels like your brain is floating in mucous, and you can't think clearly or remember why you got out of bed? Its hard to play your game turns when you're not sure you remember how to play the game, or why you'd want to!
I'm going to see my Doctor tomorrow for the SECOND TIME, essentially to say...'Why am I not better yet?' The first time I saw him, 10 days ago, he explained to me that it was "just a virus", even though he told me most of the people coming in with it thought they had walking pneumonia or bronchitis. I'm convinced if this is a "mere" virus, it must be something like "Ambulare Mortuus", and that after it finally kills me, I'll be shuffling around trying to bite people.

Andre
I am looking after him in a good Kiwi way Andre
Re: Le Roi Soleil - Challenges
A good Kiwi way. so that's lots of Pavlova with fresh cream and kiwifruit on top, lots of fresh milk and cold beer to drink, and the most attractive ewes you can find for company that lifts his spirits.
Good on ya Josh

Re: Le Roi Soleil - Challenges
Can someone kindly tell me what a HUNGARIAN KURUC REBELLION army is good for, other than giving Habsburg musketeers target practice? As near as I can tell, they are an appalling waste of quality mounts. The fact that over 90% of the army is on horseback is primarily useful because they can move faster when fleeing the victorious enemy...
Typically, Hungarian Kuruc armies are almost entirely mounted, with the majority being the lightly-equipped, but not "Light", "Hussars" who are apparently too over-confident to evade when charged by REAL cavalry. At the same time, firing carbines from the saddle, they can't hope to compete with infantry in exchanges of firepower. Their armies have a small core of Pancerni lancers, but they are not numerous enough or powerful enough to offset the many weaknesses of this army.
I would happily trade all the "Medium" Hussars for more of the Light Horse Hussars, who at least can be used in a traditional skirmishing role, harassing the enemy with long range fire, knowing they will evade if charged.
I suppose in a random potluck draw, its possible that you could find yourself facing one of the armies that's mostly Medium Infantry, and perhaps they would really shine then. But picturing them riding to victory against any half-way decent mixed force taxes the limits of my imagination...

Re: Le Roi Soleil - Challenges
Potluck is what it says it is. Many of my battles in this tournament have been essentially decided before the first move is made. I have fought battles where I have been outnumbered by 5-10000 men at the outset making victory extremely unlikely from the outset due to the victory conditions. When this is combined with inferior quality of forces as well it can be frustrating and I would much prefer the chance to at least have the option of choosing Some of my forces in order to mitigate the situation.
Of course I have long since decided that the computer has it in for me and purposely deals me the worst hand possible
