Re: Le Roi Soleil - Results
Yes seems to have gone very quite regarding battle results. Currently in my return match against The Doge, but doesn't look like there's been any other results from my box
Re: Le Roi Soleil - Results
Please... if I muck up the recording do let me know as soon as possible either by pm or on the thread and I'll fix it immediately ... no problem. I'm old and senile (and bad at math) So, if I do get it wrong I'm sorry in advance. Nothing that can't be remedied with a little embarrassment.

The Jacobites have their day!
IanDS and I finished our second game or rather Ian's Polish Dominoes went for a world record record on the domino effect while his excellent cavalry took the scenic routes around the flanks. All over before they arrived as the Jacobites headed down the middle. Tough luck on Ian.
Thanks all for the games.
Triarius - Jacobites - 3%
IDS - Poles - 50%

Re: Le Roi Soleil - Results
My return match against The Grumpy Dodge put my Spanish facing off against his French in the forests of Aquitaine. With limited visibility as well as a deep stream across the middle of the map the Spanish chose to sit on the defensive with their foot sitting in wait amongst the trees in the centre, and the bulk of their horse facing off against the French horse on one of the few open spaces on the right flank, their left flank being thinly held by a few scattered units of dragoons, detached musketeers and arquebusiers.
The start of the battle saw the French probe both flanks with dragoons, whilst their infantry slowly made their way through the woods, but it was the arrival of a flanking force on the open right flank that triggered the action with the Spanish horse desperately trying to readjust to face this threat whilst at the same time trying to hold back the French horse which took advantage of the disruption to the Spanish line and charged across the stream. The high number of veteran units present would mean that this fluid battle would rage on until the very end, with success and disaster in equal measure for both sides, but the presence of the stream, the limiting nature of the terrain, and supporting fire from artillery and infantry in the adjoining woods enabled the Spanish to be ultimately successful here, albeit it at frightful cost to both sides.
Meanwhile in the centre the French foot had finally made contact with the Spanish. Better quality units, overlaps and support from 4 artillery units meant that the French slowly gained the upper hand here.
On the left flank, the French dragoons having scouted the terrain reported back that the ground was only lightly held, and a further force of French horse now charged out of the forest and across the stream with the intent of sweeping away the scattered opposition thereby enabling them to swing around the flank and rear of the now embattled Spanish foot. A move that would no doubt have meant the ruin of the Spanish army. This however was not to be, and Spanish horse hidden in ambush in anticipation of just such a move now counter charged the surprised French, quickly putting them to flight. The tables were now turned and French foot now found themselves charged in flank by the victorious Spanish. This timely intervention relieved the growing pressure on the desperate Spanish foot, and it was their horse charging into the flank of the French foot that ultimately won them the day.
A bitter intense battle that so easily could have gone the other way.
Spanish 37% v French 68%

Final
pantherboy (French) 5% (9.5) vs 40% (0.5) ianiow (Anglo-Dutch)
pantherboy (Anglo-Dutch) 42% (8.2) vs 64% (4.2) ianiow (French)
That brings Le Roi Soleil to a close for me. Thanks to all my opponents for some exciting matches. Commiserations to ianiow after tallying such an impressive record. It is good to play an old FOG adversary. I also see hidde is coming to grips with the system. I look forward to some challenging matches in the future with such a gentlemanly band. Also thanks to Rex for the effort of setting the tourney up and getting me back into the game.
Cheers,
Steve

Re: Le Roi Soleil - Results
If I'm reading it correct then the finals were meant as elimination matches of which I defeated RBS in the semi and then ianiow in the final. I guess Snuggles and RBS can play for 3rd and 4th but I would simply look at their respective semi-final scores and place them appropriately.rexhurley wrote:
Meanwhile the top four if want too you may start your finals elimination matches, Pantherboy v RBS, Snuggles v Ianiow. Forces to be used Anglo/Dutch 1689-97 v French 91-98 on Agricultural terrain please, normal mirror conditions as with Box Play.
Cheers Rex
