I still find 'Veteran' level challenging...

Hi Again,

I'm not complaining just saying that after a full week of playing Vietnam '65 almost exclusively I 'STILL' find Veteran very challenging, (it's a good thing). (once the NVA start building bases my inevitable death spiral begins). I still play mostly at 'veteran' level but I also like to drop down to 'regular' and try different tactics and house rules. i.e. No cobras, limited PP spending. On occasion, it's also nice to just annihilate the enemy...

bases are key, then patrols, then villages, then roads, do all this and you win, by how much is dependent on how well you do it

Veteran level is a big challenge versus Normal! And that I like it!

After 12 games or so i reach with Normal level mostly victory with high H&M (>60 Points). I build very quickly FOB to get additional infantry and
one or two tanks around my central placed FiB. Chinook is also a must have...

But with Veteran level I fell every time slowly from a good H&M (ig. 55 points) down to the 40...30. Many RPG team attacks, long rain periods and bad hit results with my artillery
and the F-4 attacks make it impossible to reach Victory or Decisive Victory.

Any good strategy to help?

Strenght is almost useless if you don't know where to use it... Buy yourself some additional eyes :D

Yeeah...nice development...

I try to build many more FOB's at the left side of the map and then I have the possibilities to intel more enemy troops and camps.
With that I had more successful attacks to get higher H&M Levels with Veteran mode...and win some games at this level.

It could be, that at minimum two engineer unit's helps a lot more for "Seek and Destroy" than e.g. an Cobra or a second Artillery unit. Lessons learned... :D

There are a few ways to win the war, but generally you want to deploy to the western side of the map rather sooner than later ....

Yeah, generally. This is the aggressive way, to gain the more home US support, by destroying many NVA units. The support is used to reinforce the East afterward, to better controle the villages.
Or we rather later than sooner deploy to the western side, if we instead want to win with early perfect direct control of the east and middle villages (you don't control the west minority). It's a defensive strategy where you won't be able to have so many US troops (so you may want to use ARVN). Then going to the west tier is to counter attack in the end of the game.

Finally...I pick up my first DV at Veteran level!

Confirm the strategy to hurry up to the west side with only 1 x engineer, 1 x tank, 1 x cobra, 1 x GB
and a lot of trained ARVN.
Therefore I use mostly the "jungle highway" directly to the northwest of the map.

Let the infantry sweep for mines within the occupied villages gave some extra H&M points.
Nice to see, that artillery and F-4 strikes has now more successful hits over the time.

Let's go to another map... :D

There are three different startegies that have emerged since the game has been out, the 'invest in ARVN' is one and sounds like you have cracked it, now try something different....
