I love P&S engine
And that it is!
After a while i want to say again that this Engine, considering even Sengouku Jidai, is excellent; this game, feeling like a tabletop, never looks outdated, it is just the table, the bases .... and even the campaign engine.
I think designers and producers should know that i want to thank them for all this hard work, i was in the beta and that was a really good way to handle a beta, just:
Thank you
and keep more games with P&S engine

Thanks. I am glad you like it. I myself am still enjoying playing it despite having having lived and breathed it for 3 years.

I have to agree. This is the best war game I have played in several decades. I have bought but haven't played SJ yet but I'm sure it will be great as well. I eagerly await he next release. Hoping for Seven Years War or War of Spanish Secession.

Have to agree wholeheartedly with this. Being a tabletop gamer and player of Ancients & Renaissance wargames, this engine brings out the best of both gaming worlds for me.

Re: I love P&S engine
As much as I'd like to see Musket and Horse or ancient /medieval versions using the engine, just to mix it up would be nice to have a fantasy lement.
I guess the problem is fantasy is so broad and do you go with generic tropes... develop new "races" etc in house..
I'd love to have a fantasy game with with agood mix of ren/ pike and shot troops, but add in some dark magic, perhaps some non humans type things, war beasties etc.
I guess like Warhammer, but not so stupid : )

I too love this game. Have played tabletop games for almost 40 years but due to work and family commitments don't get the time to play as often as I would like.
This is a great game and using the PBEM I can play whenever I have 30 minutes to spare. Have had some great battles against payers from all over the world, and will continue to do so.
So a big thank you to all those involved in creating and maintaining the game.

I wholeheartedly agree with the comments that have been made so far. I began tabletop wargaming many years ago and have ECW and War of the Spanish Succession armies somewhere in my loft. I have various other computer wargames, but none of them can match up to P and S for recreating the atmosphere of tabletop games. Since P and S was released my other computer wargames have remained virtually untouched. Well done!

+1 on the good job !
I have now bought it twice ... once on the iPAD and now on the PC.
I'll do the same with FOG once it gets to the iPAD ... really enjoy both game systems.

I too love the P&S engine.
I had my doubts about squares instead of hexes -- but the squares have a better "table top" feel.
I have often wished the P&S engine had been done for Field of Glory.
Many complain about the pursuit rules and the loss of control in the game. I think it is an accurate feature. I believe the detailed control in FoG digital is not historically accurate and P&S and SJ better model reality.
My two cents.

Pike & Shot and Sengoku Jidai is excellent wargame.
If only the graphics were better it would be absolute mega hit.
And would add to some rankings and statistics of players in multiplayer. Create rankings on Pike and Shot & Sengoku Jidai!

You know this engine can also be used for the true successor of Age of Rifles.

Perhaps, if it can handle:jomni wrote:You know this engine can also be used for the true successor of Age of Rifles.
stacking
unit frontage
formations
ammo depletion (once you get magazine fed weapons at low scale, ammo gets used up very quickly)
Now, what is this Archon Engine Ive heard mentioned? improved Stubb engine?
Re: I love P&S engine
Yeah. I'm taking more about the engine, not the specific pike and shot rules.
Archon is the next generation stub engine. I have not seen it myself.

Re: I love P&S engine
Just to add my opinion. P&S is a great engine that delivers a great tabletop experience. The loss of control some have mentioned actually seems to me to be fairly accurate of how P&S battles turned out.
I feel this is mainly down to Mr Bodley Scott with his passion for and knowledge of the era coupled with a love of wargaming.

Re: I love P&S engine
I too love it - especially for those moments when control departs! I have watched my enemy collapse before me after a long slog and I have matched my own lads run for hills: it just feels like the kind of this that one must face on a battlefield of that era. I also love the built-in mod-ability of the game. I nurse the hope that the P&S will continue to be supported although the realist in me understands the laws of diminishing returns (from a financial sense) and the press of new projects are likely to mean some of the things I would like to see I never will. But this is a great game and most of all...it is fun, fun, fun...Not a bad thing for a game to be. Thanks Richard (and thanks to all the modders out there Paul59, Warlord, Odenathus and others who continue to pile on the goodies...

Yes bless the Modders! They really are adding endless cherries on top of the P&S sundae. Some real quality work all around. Poltava is absolutely gorgeous!

Re: I love P&S engine
Just wanted to joint the chorus of praise here.
I have never played a table top game, and while very interested in wargames, never really got into any of them set prior to WW I.
Enter P&S, and it's Japanese cousin, and now I am loving this more than any Eastern Front battle, reading up on the 30 Year war, and yelling at the screen when my units break. I absolutely love the 'loss of control' feature, as it seems a very good attempt to model human behavior, and certainly creates some fascinating dynamics.
Thank you for this piece of design and software art.
Mike

Re: I love P&S engine
I have tried this game for a week and I will leave it because it's so tedious to observe how computer makes slow sequences of actions without possibility to accelerate ... Repetitive sounds of shots or cry are anoying after some time. It's too much a copy of table game, why not use benefits of computer - for example to plan actions of several (ar all ?) units first and than run them concurrently (like realtime, and with possibility to attack with more units). And to see oponent's turns in another form - not like a slow sequence (realtime plus some report or replay part of battlefield on demand only).
Another
- results of shooting or melee often seem to be too random
- guns shots have no impact on units behind target.
- where are commanders (it would be more fun and it would be more historically correct) ?
- flags are missing often and identification of units is complicated
- multiplayer - armies are often very different (weak vs strong)
- impossible tactical retreat (step backwards) - why even foots must turn slowly back ??
