Game crashes shortly after beginning new game

The game crashes every time after I end first turn of new game. I have added exclusions for the game's exe, server exe and game folder with my anti virus and firewall. I tried to turn off dep for the game's exe and server exe but windows 7 would not allow it for this type of file (?). I will attach the game logs but I don't know where they are stored. I am running the steam version of the program. Thanks

Could you please try installing the game in a different folder than Program Files (x86)\....?
You could install in, for example, C:\Games\....

I tried your possible solution and it did not work. However, since I had purchased the game and expansion from Slitherine/Matrix direct and I also remembered that I had one other game that did not run if I had background programs open or minimized (such as Firefox), I installed the non-steam version, made sure to exit out of all background programs and it now seems to work fine.
