Re: Possible idea for a campaign
@Andy2012: Yeah I know it's a future dream, but I still think it would be cool. I also wish I could make some campaigns, but unfortunately my computer decided to flip out a month or two ago, it took me a while to get it to a point to where I could actually use it again, and now the editors files (along with some files of other stuff and in some cases entire games) are gone and I can't get them back. I think it's time for me to get a new computer
actually kinda funny, because of the computer files being messed up, when I was playing the Kriegsmarine mission where the Bismarck historically tried to make a run to the Atlantic when the HMS Rodney appeared it was a Renown Class, I've actually stopped playing because now i'm not sure if what ships appear are the ones that are supposed to or not and whenever I run into a British ship that isn't a destroyer it's a Renown.

I still would like to know why there is no "live" multiplayer for this great game.

outsourcing campaigns design approach.... what mean?Andy2012 wrote:@JohnMccarthy1: Would be nice, but years into the future. However, if they keep up that outsourcing campaigns design approach the Artistocrats have adopted with Burma Road, the pace could quicken. But this is all just speculation.
Aristocrats gave the project to another company?

Suggestion: Build one yourself from individual parts, saves a lot of money. Manuals and suggested shopping lists for every budget are easily found online.JohnMcCarthy1 wrote: I think it's time for me to get a new computer
Dont forget, OoB is greedy.
Re: Possible idea for a campaign
They hired / partnered up with the company / person that did the Panzercorps Grand Campaign. I think the Artistocrats mostly focus on programming / game mechanics / unit creation / general design direction and he did the mission design and historical research. (Does look like it, I am not a spokesman for them.) If you look at the recent post about the campaign diary of Burma Road, the level of detail offered has improved markedly. I hope this approach works out and they keep it up then. In my opinion, OoB always had the looks and with the supply system also the game mechanics to be a worthy successor to Panzer Corps, but always kind of lacked immersion and good mission design. It wasnt bad or boring, just not using the potential to the fullest with dramatic, tight missions keeping you on your seat. (Well, at least me.)GiveWarAchance wrote:

Re: Possible idea for a campaign
That is interesting. I never had a problem with OOB mission design and I think they put a lot of effort into it, but Panzercorp missions are very crisp and I like how they include lesser known battles but they often make it hard by combining the turn limit with a ruthless enemy counterattack like in this battle I'm doing right now

You may already know this if you are on the beta team, but American Flying Tigers do make an appearance in one of the Burma scenarios. Rather a minor role, but they are in there!WWII44 wrote:I think it would be kind of cool if you guys made a mini campaign about the Flying Tigers and their exploits in China and Burma.

Everything but another WW2 campaign would be nice. It's always about WW2, in Panzer Corps, Order of Battle and I am pretty sure, that the new Panzer Corps 2 again will be all about WW2. There needs to be more diversity of conflicts in my opinion, @Slitherine. What about Korea or Vietnam, the Six-Day War or a campaign involving the Nato and Soviet Union? Just imagine...

Re: Possible idea for a campaign
I do imagine! But, as another forum member pointed out recently, it would be best to finish WWII and then move on. The possibility of expansion to other conflicts is exciting to me too but I want Slitherine/Artistocrats to have a solid foundation in WWII before expanding elsewhere. I think that is what they want, too, and it's one of the reasons why I am so interesting in helping make that happen.Asap wrote:Everything but another WW2 campaign would be nice. It would be great, if we get there someday @bru888
I mean, we really need to be multiconflictional at some point, don't we?

Re: Possible idea for a campaign
I am waiting for the soviet campaign. Reason being I want to the chance to use their Katyusha artillery units. These things have a shock rating of 30 which will do wonders for destroying enemy efficiency and their animation is very well done that I want to see them used more.
Re: Possible idea for a campaign
A campaign about the 343rd Kokutai, Tinian Kokutai, 64th Sentai, or 244th Sentai would be kind of cool I think.

Re: Possible idea for a campaign
This is one of the reasons why I hang around here. Interesting stuff. For the benefit of a wider audience, I offer these details:WWII44 wrote:A campaign about the 343rd Kokutai, Tinian Kokutai, 64th Sentai, or 244th Sentai would be kind of cool I think.
343rd Kokutai = 343rd Naval Air Group:
Tinian Kokutai = the 121st Kokutai Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service (IJNAS) based at Ushi Point Airfield which became North Field once the Americans took Tinian:The 343rd Naval Air Group (第三四三海軍航空隊 Dai San-Yon-San Kaigun Kōkūtai) was an aircraft and airbase garrison unit of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during the Pacific campaign of World War II. Created in 1944 due to the desperate situation of Japan in the closing stages of the war, the 343rd was composed of the best surviving ace fighter pilots the Imperial Navy had at the time, with Captain Minoru Genda in command. This unit was equipped with the best airplane Japan had, the Kawanishi N1K2-J Shiden Kai, nicknamed George by the Allies, this aircraft could compete with Allied planes at the time, the F6F Hellcat, the P-51 Mustang and the F4U Corsair. This unit achieved success however it was far too late to have any effect in the war.
[Heh, this recalls what I just said in beta about Ledo Road. Sure, fighting on the island was not over but I wager the Seabees were not bulldozing within enemy range!]Assaulted on July 24, 1944 by United States Marines from Saipan, which had just been taken the previous month, the airfield was almost totally destroyed by the American naval bombardment and air attack prior to the assault by the 4th Marine Division. The Japanese were taken by surprise, with several aircraft being captured relatively intact inside a hangar. The offensive was regarded as one of the best-executed amphibious operations of the war. Ushi Point airfield fell to US forces on July 26 and was almost immediately handed over to the care of US Navy Construction Battalions, or Seabees. 1,500 Seabees landed with the initial forces on Tinian in July 1944 and immediately set to work repairing the damaged Japanese Ushi Point Airfield, even before the fighting had ended.
64th Sentai was commanded by Tateo Katō, a famous Japanese ace:
Tateo Katō died in combat in 1942 and was a hero to the Japanese people. A biopic of him was released in 1944!. . . the 64th Sentai, based at Guangzhou, China, and equipped with the latest Nakajima Ki-43 Hayabusa fighters . . . participated in the early stages of the war, especially distinguishing itself during the Battle of Malaya. The 64th Sentai was based at Duong Dong airfield on Phu Quoc Island to provide cover for the Japanese invasion fleet bound for Malaya, and to attack ground targets in Malaya and Burma. The 64th Sentai had its first combat experience against the Flying Tigers on 25 December 1941, escorting a bomber raid on Rangoon. Under Katō's command, the unit recorded over 260 aerial victories over Allied aircraft
244th Sentai was another famous Japanese air unit but was harder to find information about. They were listed in an article about the Kawasaki Ki-61:
Yes, interesting possibilities. For modders, if not The Artistocrats.Major Teruhiko Kobayashi JAAF's youngest Sentai commander. Also had an air-to-air B-29 ramming unit. Sentai claimed 73 B-29s shot down plus 92 damaged. Most famous of the Home Defence Sentais. Captain Nagao Shirai considered the ranking ace of 244 Sentai and possibly leading B-29 "killer" of JAAF (11 B-29s plus two Grumman F6F Hellcats destroyed, six other aircraft damaged using Ki-61 and Ki-100. Captain Chuichi Ichikawa nine B-29s plus one F6F destroyed, six B-29s damaged. Major Teruhiko Kobayashi, three B-29s plus two F6Fs destroyed.

Re: Possible idea for a campaign
LIke Bru, I would also love to see units from history and not just WW2.
I appreciate that WW2 needs to be complete before moving on but some scenarios from different periods, ancient and modern would be amazing, and with unit text descriptions for those of us who haven't memorized military units!
I have tried a lot of strategy games but nothing has grabbed me like Order of Battle.
With a selection of periods, I would play nothing else!
