it seem that if your unit is attacked this turn,then it will lost ZOC function,it occurred to me on a 88mm gun unit,as the attached picture show,if 88 gun is placed here,then it will be attacked by enemy infantry above ,the enemy tank across the river bank could go into just in the bridge position below the 88 gun, and cut off my infantry and tank.
just because 88 gun is attacked?

Manual, p.35: it costs three times as many movement points to move from one hex to the next if the first hex is in enemy ZoC.

Movement cost is halved on paved road, that's why fast units can possibly move further along enemy units.
Be careful next time and watch for those treacherous roads!
