....or rather as single campaigns - how well is the grand campaign done for the Japanese?

Play the grand campaign. You can keep your core force that's the only difference but you will lose your commanders and a lot of experience.

Thanks for the feedback - too sad I loose XP and commanders they should rather give the AI more units ;-D

I started Morning Sun through the grand campaign but at the end it didn't go to Rising Sun. I could save my core but I had to start Rising Sun through the campaign selection menu. Is that working as intended?

The experience loss between campaigns is not so bad. Keeps me from having to spend specialization points for one star units as most of my imports have 1.5. Maybe a max of 2 stars would be better because as it is now the boot camp is useless for starting a core.

I had created once a mix of both campaigns which isn't currently compatible with the new game versions. Bringing all the many coins, commanders and experience to Rising Sun was indeed truely overkill when I played through the 23 missions. The new export procedure is maybe the most enjoyable method to play both campaigns together, but I didn't bother yet to give both campaigns another try. Japs don't have so many enjoyable units, or let's say they only get interesting in 1945-46 when it's too late.
