I think it'd be fun as a separate event/tournament.

I was actually just thinking about how few pool-based tournaments there are. I particularly like how this one is even more Olympic-like in that it has a variety of events (DAG and scenarios).

It originated as an idea for a separate tournament but once the FOG Digital League had got the go-ahead from Slitherine we did some extra work on it. It was always our intention that the FOG Digital League would have a historically-themed section in due course but we are now wondering if we could have one in our first season. We have no sponsorship for it as yet but Slitherine are very pleased with the size of The Slitherine Trophy so we are in a good position now to ask for a couple of extra prizes.

What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

Yes I Know it will be a good challenge  Mirror matches give you a chance for revenge and the concept has worked really well in Fire in the West tournament.

OK, thanks very much - lots of positive feedback here. The only decision the committee has to make is whether to open recruitment to this section at the same time as Classical Antiquity and the two Middle Ages sections at the weekend. Give it a couple of days while Oskar and Mark play their first round Slitherine Trophy matches and we'll then let you know what we have decided.

May I already consider myself recruited if the tournament starts?
I fear this weekend I'll be away but wouldn't like to remain out of the game!!!

The FOG Digital League does not start until October 1st. If we open up recruitment to this fourth section at the weekend then we'll book you a place. Like the rest of the league it will be an invitation event to start with.

pete,

we start with the pool play, but how many games do we need to have going at once? with 3 opponents that would be 6 games...if we play in pairs, and have time for each pairing that is one thing, if all 6 games are underway at once, i'm out, as that's too much with the rest of the league underway.

Players can just have 2 games going at once from the same "mirror match", then thy can move onto the next opponent and so on, klay. Remember this tournament will last for 3 months so we might say that the group matches have to be finished in 6 weeks, or something like that. That is we would be asking players to complete 2 games every 14 days which should be OK. Then the quarters, semis and the final would have another 6 weeks allocated to them, allowing a further 14 days for each round of matches. Would that work OK for you?
