You will all have probably seen the post from Dan (cothyso) of Neurosoft about the imminent release of the new version of FOG. It is here for those of you who missed it . . .

Re: Season 5 of the FOG Digital League is delayed . . .

I have decided to delay the start of Season 5 until we know exactly when the new version is going to be released. Hopefully it will be within the next week or so. Then, once we are able to use it, I want to allow 2-3 weeks for players to get used to the new system before I open recruitment. There is no point us starting the new season with the old version still in place as it will cause absolute havoc if everyone has to change versions in the middle of the tournament. Hopefully we will be able to get underway by March 1st. I hope this is OK with everyone.

Makes sense. Ill expedite the next book-themed tournament to fill the gap. Itll likely be immortal fire and will start in early february.

Given that it feels like there's not much happening on the new version of FOG - would it be better to continue with the leagues. I for one haven't played for FOG for ages because of the lack of the competitive league - and I can feel my interest in a game I really like dwindling as we wait for Betas to be developed.

The trouble is - if we start the league and then the new version is released while it is in progress, the server will be cleared and all matches that are in progress will be lost. This would cause a major disruption to the competition and we could lose players who might have 7 or 8 matches on the go at any one time. My original schedule for 2015 was that Season 5 would start on February 1st and Season 6 on June 1st. Provisionally, I now hope to start Season 5 on June 1st. I will try and find out from Slitherine the latest situation. The communication has not been very good I must say - I was told by them that a decision would be made late January/early February but I have heard nothing since. I think the new version of the game is stable but there is one significant" problem" with it inasmuch as the combat results on the opponent's turn occur incredibly quickly so that it is impossible to follow what is happening. It is a game-breaker for me (and I suspect many other players too) so that will have to be fixed before I would consider starting a tournament. Dan has said that is a relatively straightforward matter of adding some new code to the game to correct this issue.

I'll start another themed tournament in next few weeks to fill the gap a little bit but this game/forum hasn't been the same without DL.

Shall we get it going in light of the news that it will be weeks before any news and more than that before release?

Just to be be perfectly clear - Season 5 of the FOGDL will only start after the new version has been released. At the moment very few players seem to be playing the game so recruitment numbers will be very low. In addition, Slitherine have said that the server will be cleared when the new version comes out and that will destroy all games still in progress - this would be a major disaster for a competition where some players may have up to 10 games in progress at once.

Hey Pete...GrudgeBringer here.

Been a while, now that I seem to be able to get into the forums I see there is a new version coming out, as well as the league being delayed waiting for it. My Rugby playing days are over and I can devote more time and effort....if you have a spot for an old warhorse. Let me know as I will be skulking around.

1 more question...have some of the factions in different era's been dumbed down some? They just don't seem right. Then again, maybe it was that last hit before I quit Rugby that makes them seem like it. Thanks and good to be back.

In light of the announcement today by Iain from Slitherine . . .

viewtopic.php?f=84&t=66924

I am hopeful that I will be able to re-start this competition before Xmas. The scheduled start dates for the year are February 1st, June 1st and October 1st so the October date is still a possibility. We could probably start as late as October 15 and still get it done by Xmas. Once I know the timetable for the release of the new version from Iain at Slitherine then I will announce dates for the recruitment process. I will also start doing some preparation on the format of the tournament in line with the polls we held about a year or so ago.

As there has been no further progress since mid-August, Season 5 of the FOG Digital League is postponed until after Xmas. The next viable date to start is February 1st 2016.

There is still plenty of people who play with the old version as I've had two tournaments myself and there are others such as Enakhan who have done a couple also so I don't see or under stand the problem????  :?
