Russian German legion flags

Post by deadtorius »

Working on Russians and I came across this Russian unit that was created from Prussian prisoners and deserters during 1812. I have info on their uniforms but no idea on what kind of flag that might have carried. Would it be based on a Russian later pattern or a Prussian style?
Thanks for anyone who can help.

Sadly they were considered a light infantry unit and did not carry a flag.

Although there was a proposed legion flag (refer to the partizan press book "Brazen Cross of Courage" by Stephen Summerfield....essentially along the lines of St George killing a dragon encircled with oak leaves and a patriotic phrase in german....whether this was intended for every battalion or one for each of the regiments it doesn't say.

Hope this helps a little!

Thanks, someone else pointed be to an article that stated they carried no flags and about the proposed flag with St George and the Dragon. The author was under the impression the flag was merely put forth as an idea since England took over financing the unit. So no flags. Might throw in an extra drummer or two left over from my Jager units.
