I stationed two invisible subs off East Anglia in my turn and found, when my turn came again, one of them gone with an enemy destroyer sitting in its place!
How is that possible? I thought invisible subs could not be hit.
Can invisible subs be hit?

They can.
If unit moves over hidden sub, combat will occur.
To prevent this you can put sub on sentry mode, but even in this case they can be detected with active ASW sweep and attacked.

Re: Can invisible subs be hit?
Sorry, by "invisible subs", I meant subs in sentry mode.
Thanks for your reply!

Re: Can invisible subs be hit?
While in sentry mode if an enemy surface ship enters the hex, the hidden sub will move to the closest empty hex.
The DD after moving will have the option to perform an ASW search and if found will auto attack. The SUB will then become VISIBLE.
Any air units (up to two) that have not moved can perform an ASW attack if in range of the sub.

Re: Can invisible subs be hit?
I was under the impression that it was the enemy ship that ended up in an adjacent hex - not the sub - but thank you both for your replies!
Re: Can invisible subs be hit?
Hi, that is correct if the sub is not on sentry. As the sub owner you are attempting to ambush a surface vessel moving, and will stop a surface ship and attack it with the sub.
What has changed since the vanilla version is that to attack a visible sub the surface naval unit must start adjacent to the sub and has not performed any action.
The same with air units. This is why we added the ASW search and attack for surface naval units. You then can simulate the cat and mouse game that happened in the war.
You can perform an ASW search and attack without moving by selecting the naval unit and press 'm' and the ASW icons appear.
