Understrength platoons and units in campaign

Post by snubsnub2 »

Hi there,

In the campaign game, you can switch out platoons which are depleted due to combat, I noticed that in the beginning, some are already understrength maybe due to historical accuracy etc. Like the 1 man panzersherk team as opposed to the 2 man normal one or the tank platoon with only 2 tanks etc.

Will they be reinforced over time? Or they will never go over their initial size or number as per the start of the campaign?

Also, I am thinking the only way to defeat an enemy stack is to heavily damage all the units in the platoon so that they have to keep rotating them to keep a fullish roster and eventually the lower quality one's turn will be up and then you can push them off the map?

It is difficult to totally deplete a battle group, they have lots of units in reserve and they do reinforce over night. It's best to concentrate on capturing victory locations and breaking their morale. If you break morale you capture 3 extra VL's, eventually getting a total victory and pushing them off the map. They will disband and re-appear at the supply depot in the rear, but you control the map.

Yes, non-vehicle teams can start under strength in Panthers in the Fog. How much below strength is primarily a factor of the difficulty setting you've chosen. At the highest difficulty (Elite) your teams will be significantly understrength, and some will probably even be disbanded and used to fill out other teams (resulting in missing teams). At the lowest setting (Recruit) you will usually not have any missing men at all.

Each Battle Group receives replacements during the night turn, and these are used to fill out understrength teams. So yes, if you have a 1 man bazooka team, it may be expanded to a two man team overnight. The number of replacements received is rarely enough to return a unit to full strength, and it also effected by difficulty.
